In the context of a difficult economic situation, businesses lack orders, less work, and reduced income, workers are increasingly looking forward to a little Tet bonus to have some money to return home.
Salary cut in half, only then can I have money to go home after Tet bonus
Mr. Hong Quang Su (from Ca Mau), a worker at a wood company in Tan Uyen City (Binh Duong), said that recently, work at the factory has been quite unstable. Previously, the company still worked overtime regularly, but this year, orders have decreased, only working at a moderate pace, and income has clearly decreased.
His total salary is currently around 8 million VND/month. Due to unstable income, the male worker's family has to spend frugally, sometimes having to buy food and drinks on credit, waiting for his salary to pay later.
"Currently, the company has not announced the year-end bonus policy for workers, I really hope so. I work all year just waiting for the end of the year to get an extra month's salary bonus to have money to spend on Tet," Mr. Su confided.

In the same situation as Mr. Su, many poor workers in industrial capitals such as Di An, Thuan An (Binh Duong), Trang Bom, Long Thanh, Bien Hoa (Dong Nai) also hope for the company's Tet bonus policy.
Ms. Tran Thi Tuong Vy (28 years old, from Thua Thien Hue), said that this year the economy is difficult so income has decreased a lot compared to before. Although knowing that the company is struggling, all workers are waiting for their Tet bonus to go home.
"Working all year long just waiting for the end of the year to go home to visit my parents. If there were no Tet bonus, no one in my boarding house would have enough money to travel. Every time I go home, I have to spend all kinds of money, from transportation to Tet gifts, food and drink...", Ms. Vy sighed.
No business has "cut" Tet bonuses
In Binh Duong, an official at Hoang Thong Wood Company (Binh Duong) said that the company has just planned to present to the board of directors a plan to give Tet bonuses to workers. After a difficult year for the company, orders have decreased, but the overall spirit is that the company is still trying to ensure salaries and bonuses for workers.
"Workers have been attached, accompanied, and devoted to the company for the whole year. The Tet bonus is a way of showing gratitude, and also to retain workers, so that after Tet they will return to the company to continue working," he said.

Recently, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province held a meeting with relevant departments and branches on the plan to support the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024. According to the proposed plan of the Department of Finance of Binh Duong province, the estimated budget for supporting Tet bonuses this year is approximately 274 billion VND, an increase of 7% compared to 2023. Of which, the target group is workers in especially difficult circumstances, increasing by 1,000 people.
Specifically, the province will allocate budget to support poor workers, those in especially difficult circumstances, who are not eligible to return home for Tet. Of which, the provincial block will support 35,750 meals, the district block 11,994 meals. The expenditure level is 1 million VND/meal.
In Dong Nai, many companies have also reported plans to give Tet bonuses to workers. Recently, a representative of the Trade Union of TKG Taekwang Vina Joint Stock Company (Bien Hoa City) said that in 2023, although the company experienced many difficulties, the union successfully negotiated with the Board of Directors to give Tet bonuses and salary increases to more than 31,000 workers.
Specifically, the highest bonus for employees working before January 15 is 150%, equivalent to 1.5 months of salary/person (including basic salary 2024 and average allowance for heavy and hazardous work in 2023). The bonus will gradually decrease for employees working for a shorter period of time. The expected bonus amount is about 500 billion VND.

Hwaseung Vina Co., Ltd. (Nhon Trach District) also decided to give a one-month salary bonus to employees on the occasion of this Lunar New Year. Tokin Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Bien Hoa City) agreed to give both a Tet bonus and a salary increase to employees.
Specifically, depending on the 2023 assessment results, businesses will have different Tet bonuses, the highest being 2.25 months' salary/person and the lowest being 1.15 months' salary/person.
TKG Taekwang Vina Joint Stock Company supports unlimited two-way bus tickets for workers to return home for Tet. The grassroots union will organize a bus to take workers home.
Phong Thai Group (Dong Nai) plans to give a one-month salary bonus as every year to encourage the working spirit and commitment of employees. In addition, the company also has Tet gifts from the Trade Union of the group's affiliated enterprises to give to employees.
