Recognizing the Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage

On February 10 (January 13 of the lunar calendar), in Yen Tu commune (Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh province), the Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival was held to celebrate the 555th anniversary of the village's founding. Notably, this year's Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival was also awarded a certificate of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival (Yen Tu Commune, Yen Mo District, Ninh Binh Province) aims to repay the merits of ancestors, forefathers, and those who contributed to reclaiming land and establishing villages. This is also one of the famous village festivals in Ninh Binh Province in terms of scale, performance, and some rituals.

The Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival has a history of 555 years of formation and maintenance, containing the unique cultural identity of the Non Khe village community.

With those values ​​and on the basis of ensuring the criteria, the Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival, Yen Tu Commune is honored to be included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism according to Decision No. 3987/QD-BVHTTDL dated December 10, 2024.

Celebrating the 555th anniversary of the founding of Non Khe village

Non Khe village in the past was a saline, alluvial land, wild and overgrown with reeds. In the first year of Hong Duc (1470), according to the land tenure plan, Coi Khe hamlet was established, laying the foundation for the creation of today's Non Khe village.

Over 555 years, through many historical ups and downs, with the efforts of generations of villagers to build their homeland, Non Khe village has changed a lot. Up to now, Non Khe village has 4 hamlets that have been recognized as model new rural residential areas.

According to traditional customs, the Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival takes place every year on the 14th day of the first lunar month. In recent years, due to some reasons and conditions, with the high consensus of all dignitaries and villagers, the festival has been held on the 13th and 14th days of the first lunar month.

Activities taking place in the Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival include the ceremony and the festival. The ceremony will include a ceremony and incense offering to honor the contributions of the elders who founded the village and to commemorate the heroic martyrs who were children in the village who sacrificed their lives in the war.

The festival took place in a lively and joyful atmosphere with activities such as chess, lion dance, wrestling, art performances and sports activities.

The Non Khe Village Newspaper Festival in Ninh Binh is also a place to preserve many values ​​and cultural elements, creating the village's own identity such as folk literature, folk architecture, worship system, Nom script, techniques for making cakes, sticky rice, chicken and pig heads.
