The Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway project, spanning over 48 km across Phu Yen province, begins at the Chi Thanh interchange (located in Chi Thanh town, Tuy An district), connecting with the Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh expressway. The end point is at the interchange with National Highway 1 (located in Hoa Xuan Nam commune, Dong Hoa town), connecting to the northern approach road to the Deo Ca tunnel and the Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway. The project has a total investment of nearly 11,000 billion VND, commenced in early 2023, and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Many contractors working on the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway, aware of their responsibilities, organized for engineers and workers to work throughout the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Snake to meet the project's deadline.

At Km 47+600 (the end of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway), after months of waiting for the foundation to be loaded, and nearly two months of construction being halted due to rain, Tu Lap Construction Co., Ltd. has mobilized its maximum workforce to complete the entire assigned section.

Engineer Nguyen Dinh Trung, Deputy Construction Manager of Tu Lap Construction Company, said that construction continued as usual even in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). This year's prolonged rain caused difficulties and forced a temporary halt to construction. Now, taking advantage of favorable weather, even though Tet is approaching, the contractor has encouraged workers to stay and continue construction.

"Everyone happily stayed, viewing this as a shared duty and responsibility of the unit. Everyone realized they had to sacrifice personal enjoyment to make up for the days of unfavorable weather during the construction," Mr. Trung said.

At midday at the Hoa Tam Interchange (intersecting with National Highway 1 at Km 43+536), machinery was still bustling with activity. On the two southern approach roads of the interchange, road rollers were diligently deployed, while below the overpass, a convoy of trucks continued to rush, transporting materials for road embankment construction. On approach road number 2, a construction supervision team was drilling to collect samples to check the compaction of the roadbed.

According to Mr. Ngo Tien Ha, Deputy Project Director of the Central Vietnam Construction Group, since the end of the year, the Group's staff and workers have been determined to stay on construction sites and work throughout the Tet holiday. "We eat and rest on-site. All engineers, machine operators, and drivers are ready to be on duty, celebrate the Lunar New Year on-site, and work throughout Tet to make up for the months of the rainy season," Mr. Ha said.

According to the report from Project Management Board 7 (the project investor), contractors have now completed the treatment of over 15 km of weak soil foundations, reaching nearly 90%; the construction of K95 earth embankment has reached 71%; and the cement-stabilized crushed stone base has reached 31%. Many sections of the route have already been paved with asphalt. The contractor has also completed all 32 bridges, reaching 100% (including over 94% of the bridge decks)... The cumulative output to date has reached 5,527 billion VND, nearly 69% of the contract value, almost 1% ahead of the project schedule.

Bring the new Phong Chau bridge project to completion soon.

At the new Phong Chau bridge project on National Highway 32C in Phu Tho province, the contractor will maintain five construction teams throughout the Tet holiday as usual, ensuring the project is completed within one year from the commencement date.

The collapse of the Phong Chau bridge due to Typhoon Yagi in 2024 caused significant loss of life and property, disrupting traffic on National Highway 32C. On the afternoon of December 21, 2024, the Ministry of Transport held a ceremony to launch the construction of the new Phong Chau bridge. According to Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh, accelerating the construction of the Phong Chau bridge is an urgent and crucial task. Therefore, General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh have decisively directed and demanded the completion of the new Phong Chau bridge under an emergency construction order, with the project put into operation in 2025.

Colonel Nguyen Tuan Anh, Deputy General Director of Truong Son Construction Corporation (the contractor), said that thanks to relatively good preparation at the beginning, the contractor has now basically controlled the progress. According to Mr. Tuan Anh, some items that determine the project's progress, such as dismantling the old Phong Chau bridge and constructing bored piles, have proceeded relatively smoothly. The contractor has controlled the situation and calculated the construction time in detail. As a result, the project's construction output to date is about 15 days ahead of schedule.

According to the leaders of Truong Son Construction Corporation, in order to ensure the project is completed before December 22, 2025, as directed by the Government, the immediate goal is to ensure that the foundation and pillars can withstand the water level before the 2025 minor flood (a type of flood caused by heavy rain during the minor flood season, which occurs around the end of May every year). The contractor has planned to continue construction throughout the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025.

"The five construction teams (two teams working on piers T4 and T5; one team dismantling the old bridge, one team building the approach bridge, and one team constructing the embankment…) will maintain normal operations to accelerate the implementation of the project," Colonel Nguyen Tuan Anh shared.

According to the approved plan, the new Phong Chau bridge project on National Highway 32C in Phu Tho province is being invested in under an emergency construction order with a total length of nearly 653 meters. The starting point is at Km 0+00 (approximately Km 21+50.0 of National Highway 32C bypassing Viet Tri City), located in Phung Nguyen commune, Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province. The end point is at Km 0+652.88 (approximately Km 18+551.4 of National Highway 32C), located in Van Xuan commune, Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province. The bridge will be a permanent structure built with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete, with a width of 20.5 meters to match the roadbed width.

The total investment for the project is over 635 billion VND, sourced from the central government's contingency budget. According to the plan, the project will be completed by the end of 2025.
