Recognition of 80 Shan tea trees as a source of forestry plant varieties

The Provincial Forest Protection Department has just issued a Decision to recognize the source of forestry plant seeds for 80 Shan tea trees, the source location is in A Mu Sung, Den Sang, Y Ty communes; the seed source's validity period is 10 years (from April 18, 2025), the maximum quantity of seed materials that can be provided in 1 year is 130 kg of seeds, 55,000 cuttings. The owner of the seed source is the Agricultural Service Center of Bat Xat district.

It is known that these Shan tea trees were investigated and selected from 103 selected superior trees. The evaluation results are based on growth indicators such as: diameter, height of the top, yield of fresh tea buds and flowering and fruiting rate...

From the assessment of the agrobiological characteristics of ancient Shan tea trees, the specialized agency selected 80 original tea trees in the communes of A Mu Sung (60 trees), Den Sang (5 trees), and Y Ty (15 trees). The selected tea trees meet the criteria for growth, development, and outstanding ability, so that they can be propagated and the production area will be expanded, helping to preserve and develop ancient Shan tea trees.

The recognition of this seed source opens up great opportunities for the conservation and development of Shan specialty tea material areas, contributing to increasing the economic value for local people. At the same time, this is also a scientific basis for building afforestation programs, ecological restoration and sustainable development of the tea industry in the province.

In the coming time, the Agricultural Service Center of Bat Xat district will organize the care, protection, management and exploitation of seed material sources (seeds and cuttings) of Shan tea trees (ancient trees) to serve the development of afforestation, scientific research, and improve economic efficiency. The Forest Protection Department of Bat Xat district will guide, inspect, and supervise the process of care, protection, management and exploitation of seed sources according to regulations.
