The condolence letter from the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos reads: "The image and personality of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will forever be a great source of encouragement for compatriots inside and outside Vietnam."
Over the past two days, since hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, the Vietnamese community in the capital Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic, has expressed their sorrow at having to say goodbye to a man, an exemplary role model, and an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh.
On July 20, the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos and the Association of Vietnamese in Vientiane sent letters of condolence to the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to express their condolences.
The letter from the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos said: "With his passing, the country lost an outstanding son, and compatriots at home and abroad lost a loyal and outstanding leader.
In the memories of overseas Vietnamese, the General Secretary is always remembered as an exemplary person, but also extremely simple. The General Secretary's care and valuable sharing have strongly strengthened solidarity, love and mutual support, looking towards the homeland, and placing trust in the Party and State.
The image and personality of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will forever be a great source of encouragement for compatriots inside and outside Vietnam.”
The letter from the Vietnamese Association of Vientiane Capital wrote: “Overseas Vietnamese in Laos, especially in Vientiane Capital, are one of the communities honored to have welcomed and met many times with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who always pays great attention and affection to overseas Vietnamese every time he visits and works in the brotherly country of Laos.
In the memories of overseas Vietnamese, the image of the General Secretary is always remembered as a person with a great, exemplary personality, but also extremely simple.
The General Secretary's concern and valuable sharing have strongly strengthened solidarity, love and mutual support, the orientation towards the homeland and the belief in the Party and State in the hearts of each overseas Vietnamese in the capital Vientiane in particular and overseas Vietnamese in Laos in general.
The exemplary image and personality of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will forever be a great source of encouragement for the Party, State and people of Vietnam at home and abroad, including the overseas Vietnamese community in the capital Vientiane, to continue to make efforts to contribute to the cause of developing Vietnam to become increasingly strong and powerful as the General Secretary wished during his lifetime."
In the evening of the same day, the Vietnamese community living and working in the capital Vientiane went to Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane to hold a memorial service, expressing their respect and condolences to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Sharing with a reporter from Vietnam News Agency in Laos, Ms. Ma Thi Kim Cuong could not help but be moved when hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing.
She said she heard the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing on the afternoon of July 19 after she had finished praying at the temple. As a Vietnamese, she felt very sad because a great leader of the nation and country of Vietnam had passed away forever.
Therefore, early in the morning of July 20, Ms. Cuong and many Buddhists were present at the pagoda to clean up and prepare a place to commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Sharing the same feelings as Ms. Cuong, Ms. Nguyen Kim Hoa also felt very shocked and moved, deeply mourning General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Most Venerable Thich Minh Quang, Head of the Coordinating Board of Vietnamese Buddhism in Laos and Abbot of Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane, said that the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss for the Vietnamese people.
All the actions of monks, nuns, and Buddhists come from the heart, from the mind. Venerable Thich Minh Quang expressed his wish that the Vietnamese people turn their loss into concrete actions, the whole people, the whole country unite together, as Uncle Ho taught: "Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success." That is also the foundation for victory in the cause of building and developing the country's economy.
To commemorate and express gratitude to an outstanding son of Vietnam, under the guidance of Venerable Thich Minh Quang, monks, nuns and Buddhists chanted sutras and respectfully offered incense to remember the great contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - who devoted his whole life to the country and the people./.
