The meeting took place within the framework of the official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
On behalf of the local government and people, Governor Wanchai Kongkasem happily welcomed Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the delegation, emphasizing that the visit of the National Assembly Chairman shows the attention of the Party and State of Vietnam to the province and locality with a large Vietnamese population and many positive contributions to the friendly relations between the people of the two countries.
Mr. Wanchai Kongkasem said that in Udon Thani, the Vietnamese community is large in number, has deeply integrated into the local society, has close relationships with the Thai people and has made many important contributions to the local economic and social development.
Economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges between Udon Thani and some localities of Vietnam have recently been significantly strengthened, including the role of a bridge and the active support of the Vietnamese community. He also said that Udon Thani and localities of Vietnam have close economic, trade, educational and people-to-people cooperation. The province is promoting the early signing of a cooperation agreement with Thai Nguyen province of Vietnam.
The National Assembly Chairman expressed his pleasure to visit Udon Thani for the first time as Chairman of the National Assembly when the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership, and is also the first high-ranking leader of Vietnam to visit Thailand after the country's successful election.
Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the two countries are promoting cooperation and connection on three pillars, which are connection in goods, tourism, and services; connection between businesses and localities of the two countries; and connection between the two sustainable development strategies of Vietnam and green growth of Thailand. With its geographical advantages as well as a large Vietnamese community as a bridge, Udon Thani has an important position in cooperation between the two countries in many aspects. The demand for learning Vietnamese and Thai in the two countries is increasing and Udon Thani can completely become a center for teaching these two languages. In addition, there is a lot of potential for cooperation between Udon Thani and Thai Nguyen, especially in commodity production, high-tech agriculture, etc. The two provinces need to speed up the signing of cooperation agreements, soon send business delegations to learn about each other's investment environment, business cooperation, and market penetration.
On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman expressed his gratitude for the affection and attention of local authorities at all levels for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community, and for community projects such as Vietnam Street, the project to expand the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site, a site of important historical and cultural significance in the spiritual life of Vietnamese people in Thailand.
The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the provincial government's respect and support for the Vietnamese community in building Vietnam Street, a place to preserve and introduce many cultural features of the Vietnamese people, especially in terms of daily life and cuisine. Not only is it a meaningful place for the Vietnamese community, Vietnam Street is a symbol of cooperation between the two countries, but it is also an important cultural and tourist destination of the province.
