On September 27, news from the Office of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province said that the Chairman of the People's Committee of this province has just signed a decision to announce an emergency situation regarding landslides on the southern bank of the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau canal.
Specifically, the landslide section from Gia Rai bridge to Tran Van Som bridge (in the area of group 4 and group 5, ward 1, Gia Rai town, Bac Lieu province).

The landslide area is about 1,100m long; there are 143 households, Gia Rai market, Son Ca Kindergarten (district-level school).
To respond and overcome the consequences to prevent and minimize damage caused by landslides, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested urgent measures to be applied immediately.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province requested the Provincial Civil Defense Command to continue to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the People's Committee of Gia Rai town to closely monitor the landslide developments to promptly respond and handle the situation.
For the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province assigns monitoring, supervision, urging and organizing guidance and inspection of the implementation of regulations on ensuring requirements for natural disaster prevention and control and performing other State management responsibilities in managing riverbank erosion prevention and control works within the scope of management.
Gia Rai Town People's Committee immediately organized inspection, demarcated the landslide area, established a safety corridor; installed warning signs for the landslide area; prevented people and vehicles from entering the landslide area.
People living along the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau canal (in the landslide area) proactively relocated and repaired their houses to avoid the risk of further landslides.
At the same time, deploy solutions to ensure the safety of people, students, and works in affected areas and other necessary measures to respond to emergency situations.
Along with that, direct the Town Economic Department, Ward 1 People's Committee, Gia Rai Town and affiliated professional agencies to closely monitor the incident's developments, organize the first hour of handling according to the "4 on-site" motto (on-site command; on-site forces; on-site means and materials; on-site logistics).
Previously, due to the impact of climate change, rising sea levels have caused landslides in recent times, causing serious landslides on many sea dikes and river banks in the province.
In particular, there has been a particularly dangerous landslide on the southern bank of the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau canal (from Gia Rai bridge to Tran Van Som bridge) in hamlets 4 and 5, ward 1, Gia Rai town.
Currently, landslides are increasing; with the current rate of landslides, if not handled promptly, there will be a risk of threatening concentrated residential areas, constructions, schools... in the above landslide areas.
According to the People's Committee of Gia Rai town, in addition to the landslide area from Gia Rai bridge to Tran Van Som bridge, there are other landslides in the area, such as: The section from Ho Phong bus station to Su Son bridge (length 4,700m; 642 households; this area has Ho Phong old market, school and many infrastructure works);
The downstream section of the East and West banks of Ho Phong sluice (length 2,400m; 333 households; this area has schools and many infrastructure works); The downstream section of the East and West banks of Su Son sluice (length 720m; 3 households; has infrastructure works).
