(NLDO) - In 2025 university admissions, Ho Chi Minh City National University uses 3 methods to select suitable candidates. This is a major adjustment compared to before.
On February 12, Ho Chi Minh City National University held a workshop on university admission methods in 2025 and the 2025 Competency Assessment Exam at Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Referring to university and college admissions in 2025, Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia, former Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University, pointed out changes that need to be noted such as:
The early admission quota is not more than 20% of each major and group of majors. The admission score for early admission (after equivalent conversion) is not lower than the admission score of the general admission round. With this adjustment, it can be understood that the Ministry of Education and Training only allows early admission by direct admission method and gives priority to direct admission. With the regulation of eliminating early admission, schools still use other methods but the admission time is postponed to the general admission time of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The subject combination used for admission includes at least 3 subjects that are suitable for the characteristics and requirements of the training program, including math or literature with an assessment weight of at least 1/3 of the total score. A training program, major, or group of majors can use several subject combinations at the same time for admission, in which case the common number of subjects of the combinations must have an assessment weight of at least 50% of the total score. Thus, schools can use unlimited admission combinations, instead of only being able to use 4 combinations as before, but are constrained by the weight of the scores of the subjects.
Reviewing transcripts must use academic results. the entire 12th grade year of the candidate. Thus, the university cannot consider admission based on transcripts and announce the admission score from March as before (the admission method based on transcripts is no longer an early admission method).
Admission methods are converted to a common scale : The review scores and admission scores of the methods and subject combinations used for admission must be converted to a common, unified scale for each admission major.
Add the threshold to ensure the input from the high school graduation exam score so that candidates can choose 1 of 2, either based on high school academic scores or high school graduation exam scores. Do not bind both conditions at the same time as in the draft (in addition to the 3-year high school transcript results, there is also the condition of the floor score for the high school graduation exam).
Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia also said that although the 2025 university admission regulations have not been officially issued, up to this point, about 70 universities have announced their 2025 admission plans. The admission methods are basically unchanged compared to previous admission periods, including:
- Direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and priority for direct admission according to regulations of the University.
- Admission based on high school graduation exam results.
- Admission based on high school results (high school transcript).
- Admission based on results of separate exams.
- Combined admission methods.
Regarding the 2025 high school graduation exam, Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia said that in 2025, there will be about more than 1 million candidates taking the high school graduation exam, of which about more than 700,000 candidates will apply for university admission. There are 2 compulsory subjects in the high school graduation exam: literature, math and 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12, including: Foreign languages, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economic education and law, information technology, technology. So in reality, students can only choose 2 subjects from the subjects they studied when entering grade 10.

Admission methods include:
(1) Direct admission (maximum quota: 15%): Admission is based on integrating many criteria with high school academic results.
(2) Admission based on the results of the Competency Assessment Test (CAT) organized by VNU-HCM (minimum quota of 20%): Admission is based on integrating many criteria with the CAT results (weight from 50%).
(3) Admission based on high school graduation exam results: Admission is based on integrating many criteria with high school graduation exam results (weight from 50%).
Ho Chi Minh City National University encourages units to develop combined admission methods.
At the University of Science and Technology, in 2025, the school will consider direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, according to the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University; consider the total score of academic results, high school, high school exam, capacity assessment test... and other capacities; consider foreign candidates or candidates with foreign admission certificates; consider candidates planning to study abroad.
