Announcing Vietnam Card Day 2024

This morning (September 26th), the Organizing Committee of Vietnam Card Day officially announced the Vietnam Card Day 2024 event. This is an annual event with content guidance from the State Bank of Vietnam, organized by Tien Phong Newspaper and Vietnam National Payment Corporation (NAPAS). The Vietnam Card Day 2024 event will be held with the theme "Live Chill - Pay with Quality".

Mr. Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, delivered the opening remarks at the event.

At this year's Vietnam Card Day 2024 event, the concept of Open Banking was discussed in the context of the banking industry facing a comprehensive digital revolution, where banks share data with third parties to provide new and superior experiences for customers. The open banking trend is one of the main trends and driving forces behind change, promising to create a breakthrough in the provision of banking products and services.

Vietnam Card Day 2024 targets students, young people, and young families aged 15-40 who need to use digital payment methods and online payments through internet banking and mobile banking services of banks, as well as banking services integrated on third-party platforms such as online public service platforms, e-commerce, online booking, transportation services, etc.

The future trend for banking is digital technology , with applications in payment methods such as Tap to Pay, Tap to Phone, QR code payments, e-wallets, mobile payments, and other digital technologies like electronic customer identification (eKYC).

Identified as "digital natives," young consumers are the key factor in embracing digital payment and banking experiences and choosing methods that suit their individual needs.

Within the framework of Vietnam Card Day 2024, there will be 6 main activities: a press conference announcing the series of events on September 26th; the Megasale Online Campaign (September 30th – October 26th); a thematic seminar on October 2nd; a career guidance seminar at the National Economics University (October 4th); and the Vietnam Card Day 2024 - Wave Festival event at the Bach Khoa Stadium (October 5-6).

At the press conference, the Organizing Committee announced Miss Vietnam 2020 Do Thi Ha as the brand ambassador for Vietnam Card Day 2024.

Speaking at the press conference announcing Vietnam Card Day 2024, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director of the Payment Department (State Bank of Vietnam), stated: “Credit institutions are trending towards shifting from the traditional banking model to an open banking model, strengthening connectivity and integrating technology in many areas, becoming a bridge for information exchange between banks and businesses, supporting the effective implementation of consumer or production and business payment activities with the goal of putting customers at the center, offering more choices, better personalized services while still ensuring safety and security, thereby contributing to the popularization of cashless payments among people and businesses.”

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan also believes that the series of events for Vietnam Card Day 2024 will provide Vietnamese youth and banks with a direct and diverse platform to access and experience modern payment methods, approaching the technological level of the world , which are being introduced and gradually popularized in Vietnam by banks, such as contactless chip card payments, near-field communication (NFC) wireless payments, online and offline point-of-sale payments via QR codes, online payments for digital services and e-commerce via mobile banking applications, etc., combined with supporting solutions and services such as secure biometric authentication, card information encryption (tokenization), and safe and convenient electronic identification (eKYC).

Journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, also shared that, stemming from the rapid and groundbreaking development of cashless payments over the four seasons of Vietnam Card Day, the organizing committee is seeking guidance from the State Bank of Vietnam on changing the name of the Vietnam Card Day program. The new name will be more in line with the future development trends of digital payment methods.
