Despite playing away, Hanoi Police Club took the initiative and quickly overwhelmed the home team PSM Makassar (Indonesia). With a superior squad, the Police team held the ball much more than the Indonesian representative, continuously creating dangerous attacks.

In the 14th minute, Quang Hai was fouled by a PSM Makassar defender in the penalty area. However, on the 11m mark, Alan could not beat goalkeeper Reza Pratama. More than 10 minutes later, it was Hugo Gomes' turn to head the ball against the post after a corner kick by Le Van Do.

In the following minutes, Hanoi Police continued to have many more scoring opportunities but could not take advantage. In the first half's injury time, the Vietnamese representative almost paid the price. Rizky Pratama had a chance to face Filip Nguyen in a lightning counterattack by the home team. However, the Hanoi Police goalkeeper played excellently to save the goal at the last minute.

In the second half, PSM Makassar pushed up their formation and tried to attack early in the second half. Hanoi Police accepted to retreat deep to wait for a counterattack. After that, the Vietnamese representative gradually regained control of the game and still had a ball possession rate of more than 60% compared to the home team.

Despite attacking many times without scoring, Hanoi Police had to pay the price. In the 80th minute, PSM Makassar unexpectedly opened the scoring. No Hanoi Police player was marking center-back Yuran Fernandes in the corner kick situation. The PSM Makassar captain easily headed the goal.

This was also the only goal of the match. Although Hanoi Police had many opportunities to score and dominated, they eventually lost 0-1. However, the Vietnamese representative still has a chance in the second leg at Hang Day Stadium when the gap between the two teams is only 1 goal.
