Recently, a shocking video has gone viral on social media of a giant snake crawling across a golf course. According to The Sun (UK), the snake was about 3m long at the famous Magenta Shores golf course in New South Wales, Australia.

This is the Eastern Brown, one of Australia’s deadliest snakes. Known for its agility and speed, it is ranked as the third most dangerous snake in the country. Despite injecting only 4mg of venom per bite, it can still kill a human.

Viewers of the video were horrified by the sight. One said: “I thought I was going to die when I saw it in front of me.” Another added: “That must be the biggest brown snake ever.”

However, eastern brown snakes are not known to attack humans unless provoked.

"It looked to be about 3m long. Normally they only grow to 2m in length (the average length of this snake is 1.5m). It looks like it's been well fed and has lived for many years, " Austin Pols, an officer at a Sydney wildlife conservation organization, told News Australia.

“We often get calls to golf courses,” Mr Pols added. “They tend to like this location because it provides everything a snake could need – food, shelter, water and sunshine.”

As for what to do if you encounter a snake on the golf course, he advises: “If you encounter a snake on the golf course, keep your distance and let it pass. Fortunately, golf courses are generally well maintained, making it almost impossible to accidentally step on a snake and risk being bitten.”

The eastern brown snake is ranked as the second most venomous snake in the world . It is not a cobra but a member of the Elapidae family (venomous snakes with fixed fangs at the front of their jaws). Its venom is a neurotoxin that can cause severe pain, hemorrhage, paralysis, respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest.
