Mr. Hoang Quoc Thanh, in Nam Hai village, Thach Hai commune, Thach Ha district (Ha Tinh province) has successfully bred civets. Initially, this model of raising special products of wild animal origin has brought Mr. Thanh an income of hundreds of millions of dong each year.
Raising wild animals "sleep during the day and work at night"
In 2021, after returning to his hometown after working abroad in Japan, he was still wondering what career to start. After watching information on TV and the Internet about the effectiveness of the civet breeding model for high profits, Mr. Thanh intended to invest in raising this specialty animal.
In 2023, Mr. Hoang Quoc Thanh boldly invested nearly 500 million VND to build a model for breeding civets. Of which, 100 million VND was used to build a cage system of about 100 m2 , 400 million VND to buy 40 parent civets (5 males and 35 females).
Mr. Hoang Quoc Thanh said: "Civets are rare wild animals. I asked permission from the Ha Tinh Forestry Department to implement a model of breeding civets. When releasing the breed, with the guidance of a friend, I gradually mastered the technical process of breeding and started to breed civets."
The weasel's food is ripe bananas combined with white porridge and industrial chicken heads. In particular, weasel loves to eat freshwater fish mixed with sea fish. Thanks to the natural food source, rich in nutrients, weasel grows and reproduces well.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Thanh, in Nam Hai village, Thach Hai commune, Thach Ha district (Ha Tinh province) has initially had success with the model of breeding civets - a model of raising specialty animals. According to Mr. Thanh, the technique of raising civets is not difficult, in addition, the experience of raising civets is also quite quick. Photo: PV

The characteristic of civets is to stay awake at night and sleep during the day, so every day Mr. Thanh only feeds the civets once at 5 pm.
Food costs from 2,000-3,000 VND/day. After successful mating, the mink begins to reproduce about 2 months later. Each year, mink give birth to 2 litters, each litter has 4-5 babies.
According to Mr. Thanh, to successfully raise mink, one must first choose purebred breeds from farms near one's area so that the mink can adapt quickly.
Civets are animals with good resistance, so they rarely get sick, mainly to prevent coccidiosis and septicemia. When you see civets showing symptoms of illness, immediately separate the cage and use common veterinary medicine to treat it and it will be cured.
"Pocket" hundreds of millions each year
Currently, for commercially raised civets, weighing 3-5kg/head, Mr. Thanh sells them for 4-5 million VND/head; breeding civets, 2-2.5 months after birth, will be sold for 12 million VND/pair.
According to Mr. Hoang Quoc Thanh, in Nam Hai village, Thach Hai commune, Thach Ha district (Ha Tinh province), civet food is easy to find and cheap. When raising this wild animal, breeders need to register procedures with local authorities. Photo: PV
To raise civets effectively, Mr. Thanh focuses on care techniques, daily cleaning of cages and cage building techniques.
The cage system was built by Mr. Thanh high, surrounded by iron mesh 0.5 m above the ground, 0.8 m wide and 0.6 m high. Each cage is divided into 2 floors, the upper floor is for the ferrets to sleep and the lower floor is for the ferrets to eat and climb.
According to Mr. Thanh, civets are wild animals, forest animals, although domesticated and raised, they still retain their wild nature, if raised together, they will bite each other.
When raising this wild animal, each animal must be divided into a cage, divided into many areas for breeding mink, reserve mink and baby mink.
"Currently, the herd is maintained at about 100 animals. In 2023, the first batches of mink will be sold, with 20 commercial minks and 10 breeding minks, earning about 150 million VND. In early 2024, 30 commercial minks and 20 breeding minks were sold, earning nearly 300 million VND.

In the coming time, I will continue to expand the scale of the civet farm, and have the idea of calling on some relatives and friends to join in raising civets, aiming to establish a cooperative or cooperative, build a brand as well as connect and support in the consumption of civet breeding and civet meat," said Mr. Thanh.
