“You are you” – an interesting story about a young Vietnamese translator

Little Lily, whose real name is Ho An Nhien, is a child translator who started translating books at the age of 8. Up to now, she has owned many translations of “Silk Roads” (children’s edition); the 3 picture books “Guardians of Childhood” by William Joyce, including “Moon Man”, “Dreamer”…

Her translated works make readers surprised by her smooth translation ability, even though the books contain very new words, even difficult concepts even for adults and experienced translators.

When reading the book “You are you – Growing up with freedom” by Lily’s family, published by the Vietnamese Women’s Publishing House, readers are no longer surprised by what Lily has done, because she was raised by her family in an atmosphere of freedom and love. From that atmosphere, the family and Lily read books together, participated in activities to promote reading culture, translate books, explore the world and themselves.

In the book, it can be seen that raising Lily is the responsibility of the whole family, but the mother's role is extremely important. Her mother was very serious in preparing to welcome the birth of her child, growing up with her child every day, teaching her seemingly difficult knowledge such as knowledge of history, finance, medicine... from the activities of daily life.

For example, when going to the supermarket, her mother taught her about bills, taxes, cash flow... Or when participating in social activities with her child, being exposed to seminars so that she becomes bold and gets used to translation work naturally, being responsible for her choices...

Besides, her mother also realized the role of setting an example, constantly self-studying, improving herself in areas where she was limited. Therefore, Lily always had the awareness to self-study.

Raised in an intellectual family that respected her child's freedom, Lily showed intellectual inclinations early on. She was passionate about knowledge, always curious to explore everything and was not afraid to try.

This is not a book about “child prodigies” but rather a sharing of experiences and memories from families, thereby helping parents realize that the core is to let children develop as themselves.
