Implementing Resolution No. 10-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee, dated September 26, 2022 on strengthening the Party's leadership in resource management, environmental protection, natural disaster prevention and mitigation, climate change response, and ensuring water security in the period of 2022-2030, in recent times, Co To district has focused on synchronously implementing solutions in environmental protection work in the area.

The Standing Committee of Co To District Party Committee has directed units, departments, People's Committees of communes and towns in the district to strictly implement the dissemination and dissemination of the resolution, and at the same time, integrate the contents of the directives on environmental resource protection, natural resource use, natural disaster prevention and mitigation, climate change response and water security assurance in the annual resolution on the direction and tasks of the locality.
On this basis, propaganda work among the people has been widely carried out by authorities at all levels, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations from district to commune with forms suitable for each target such as: loudspeakers, leaflets, meetings of residential groups, conferences, launching environmental sanitation movements... Through propaganda, it has contributed to raising awareness of cadres, party members and people of all walks of life, creating a positive effect in organizing and successfully implementing the goals set out in the resolution.
The Standing Committee of Co To District Party Committee also issued many decisions and projects related to environmental protection in the area, especially the project "Co To District without plastic waste". In particular, the district has increased propaganda to raise awareness among people about not dumping waste, plastic waste in particular and environmental protection in general, associated with implementing prescribed sanctions. Focus on classifying waste at source, collecting and treating waste; preventing the discharge of waste from ships and boats into the sea; not using hard-to-decompose plastic bags, single-use plastic products.
Thereby, preventing the negative impacts of plastic waste on the marine and island environment to protect and develop marine resources, ensure people's livelihoods, while preserving the landscape and natural environment, associated with sustainable tourism development... From September 15, 2023, Co To district requested that all tourists not bring plastic bags and disposable plastic items to the island. The District People's Committee also requested that 100% of agencies, units, schools, markets, service businesses, passenger transport vessels, cargo transport, seafood fishing... in Co To district not use plastic bags, disposable plastic items (plastic boxes, plastic cups, disposable plastic straws,...) and materials that pose a risk of polluting the marine environment.
In addition, many meaningful activities and movements on environmental protection have been maintained and implemented by Co To district, such as: "Let's clean the sea" campaign; general cleaning movement on Thursday and Saturday; implementation of projects "Waste classification at source"; flower road movement... From these movements, people and tourists have raised their responsibility in participating in environmental sanitation, raising awareness of putting garbage in the right place, protecting ecological landscapes... Thereby, it has greatly contributed to creating a green - clean - beautiful environment at beaches, residential areas, building a cultural lifestyle of environmental protection in the district. According to the assessment of Co To district, the district has currently completed 6/8 targets of Resolution No. 10-NQ/TU. In particular, the rate of collection and treatment of household waste in urban areas reached 98%, in island communes with tourism activities reached 99%; the forest cover rate reached over 58%; 98% of urban households and 80% of rural households have access to clean water according to standards...
In particular, environmental protection activities have had positive changes among the people. The natural environment in the district is increasingly effectively protected. Many rare marine species have returned to the sea of Co To: whales, dolphins, turtles... According to scientists and marine environmental experts, the frequent appearance of marine creatures is proof that the marine environment in Co To is getting better and better, the work of protecting aquatic resources and preventing overfishing is being done well, many aquatic species are recovering. It can be seen that from the drastic measures in protecting the environment, fighting waste pollution, especially plastic waste, and the determination to build a green, clean and beautiful Co To island, it has brought positive results, making Co To district increasingly develop sustainably, ensuring the natural environment.
