VN-Index decreased 6.8 points (-0.55%) to 1,223.56 points in the session on August 15.

After closing yesterday's session (August 14) at 1,230.36 points, down slightly from the previous session with trading volume down 9.24% from the previous session and equal to 62% of the average, investors are waiting for US inflation data released last night. Accordingly, the US CPI increased by 0.2% in July and increased by 2.9% compared to the same period last year, lower than the 3% forecast by economic experts. This is also the weakest increase since April 2021, boosting expectations that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may start cutting interest rates at its September 2024 meeting.

Entering the trading session on August 15, it seemed that the US CPI information would help investors feel less pessimistic, however, the market developments went the opposite way. The indices fell again just a few minutes after opening, and during the entire trading session that followed today, the indices fluctuated below the reference level. In addition, during the VN30 index futures contract expiration, the market did not fluctuate too strongly.

Most stock groups decreased in price today, although VN-Index decreased by only about 7 points, many small and medium-cap stocks decreased by more than 2-3%. In the group of large stocks, stocks such as GVR, BID, MSN, VCB, GAS, HPG... all decreased in price and put a lot of pressure on the general market. Notably, HPG continued to decrease by 0.98% and took away 0.39 points from the index. Not only HPG, other steel stocks decreased very sharply, of which, TVN decreased by 4.2%, HSG decreased by 3.7%, NKG decreased by 2.7%, VGS decreased by 3.6%...

Along with that, small and medium-cap stocks in the chemical fertilizer, real estate, securities groups... were all in red. Of which, CSV continued to decrease by 5.35%, NTL decreased by 2.8%, VDS decreased by 2.5%, NLG decreased by 2.1%...

On the other hand, VHM was the most important factor in helping to curb the decline of VN-Index, this stock closed up 1.75% and contributed 0.68 points to VN-Index. LPB also increased 2.08% and contributed 0.37 points. Codes such as HDB, VIB, BHN... also contributed to supporting the general market.

GVR, BID, MSN, VCB led the decline of VN-Index.

At the end of the trading session, VN-Index decreased by 6.8 points (-0.55%) to 1,223.56 points. The entire floor had 109 stocks increasing, 301 stocks decreasing and 64 stocks remaining unchanged. HNX-Index decreased by 1.14 points (-0.5%) to 228.54 points. The entire floor had 50 stocks increasing, 100 stocks decreasing and 60 stocks remaining unchanged. UPCoM-Index decreased by 0.47 points (-0.51%) to 92.18 points.

Total trading volume on HoSE reached more than 497 million shares, down about 2% compared to yesterday's session, equivalent to a trading value of only VND11,540 billion. Trading value on HNX and UPCoM reached VND811 billion and VND454 billion, respectively.
