Start a business from where you were born

Born and raised in a family with a rich revolutionary tradition , in 1986, when he was just 19 years old, Mr. Dao Ngoc Tuan (Long Hoa commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province) enthusiastically went on an international mission to the friendly country of Cambodia .

Two years later, he was discharged from the army and returned to his hometown to start a family. When he moved out, his parents were both poor and could not help much. The couple's income at that time was based on hired labor. With the enthusiasm and fearlessness of Uncle Ho's soldiers, who were trained in the army, Mr. Tuan realized his dream of starting a business right in his hometown. He researched and learned about different economic development models and began to "fall in love" with the incense cart model.

At the beginning, he also encountered many difficulties and challenges. The first difficulty was the formula for mixing incense powder. After many failures, he decided to learn, experiment and then come up with his own formula for mixing incense powder. After solving this difficulty, he encountered another difficulty, which was the strong development of industrialization and modernization. If he continued to do it manually, he could not compete, and had to apply machinery to production while his family did not have enough capital to invest.

Luckily, the Veterans Association of the commune created conditions for him to borrow 80 million VND from preferential capital from the Social Policy Bank. With that charitable capital, he invested in an incense cart machine and imported raw materials. From here, his family's incense cart model has continuously developed. On average, each day, he supplies the market with 70-80 bundles (1,000 bundles per cart), after deducting expenses, earning a profit of more than 50 million VND/month.

Veteran Dao Ngoc Tuan confided: “During the southwestern border war, I was lucky to survive and return to my family, while many of my comrades had to stay on friendly soil or leave part of their bodies on the battlefield. I think I was luckier than many others, so I have to try harder. The more difficult it is, the more resilient and stronger I have to be.”

In addition to bringing in a stable income for his family, Mr. Tuan also creates regular jobs for 6 idle workers in the locality. In particular, he is also an exemplary veteran, actively participating in movements and activities launched by the locality.

Chairman of the Association of War Veterans of Long Hoa Commune - Nguyen Van Hoa affirmed: “Starting from difficulties, War Veteran Dao Ngoc Tuan has strived to rise up. With the attention of the Party and the State, with the spirit of overcoming difficulties, he has built a career right on his homeland. Particularly in the role of Head of the Association of War Veterans of Hamlet 4, he has always been exemplary, actively completing all tasks assigned by the Association at all levels.”

Team spirit

Living on public land of the State, veteran Phan Van Dat (Vinh Chau A commune, Tan Hung district) is always worried about when he will have to move his house. With an unstable income, he saves up for a long time to buy a house in a residential area and dreams of nothing more than having money to build his own house.

Sharing with his former comrades, the Association of War Veterans of Tan Hung district mobilized benefactors to support Mr. Dat with 80 million VND to build a house of Comradeship. The house has started construction and is expected to be completed by the end of April. 80 million VND may not be a large amount for many families, but for Mr. Dat, it is very meaningful because this is the seed capital, helping him have more motivation to realize his dream of "settling down and having a career".

CCB Phan Van Dat confided: “I am so happy to receive 80 million VND in support to build a house, it's like a dream! With this amount of money, I have the motivation to build a house. Now, with each brick laid, each stage completed, I am filled with happiness. My dream of a new house is gradually coming true.”

The family life of veteran Ngo Van Cu (left, Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district) is more stable thanks to the support of the Tan Hung District Veterans Association.

Similar to Mr. Dat, veteran Ngo Van Cu (Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district) also has a stable life thanks to the support of the district's Veterans Association. Like many other veterans when they first returned to normal life, Mr. Cu encountered many difficulties and challenges. With the meaningful support, in 2020, he was supported with 40 million VND to build a Comrades' house.

Since having a new house, he has been able to work with peace of mind and develop his family's economy with the model of raising elephant snakes. Thanks to raising snakes, he has an income of about 50 million VND/year. Veteran Ngo Van Cu happily said: "Having a spacious and clean house, I can work with peace of mind, and my family's economy has also improved since then. From the 40 million VND support, I built the rough part and then saved up to complete the house. Looking back at my family's life now, I am very grateful to my comrades and teammates!"

After returning to civilian life, each veteran has different circumstances. The spirit of Uncle Ho's soldiers forged in the army has helped them stand firm on the production front. Above all, the solidarity and sharing that comrades and teammates had for each other in the past is the motivation and deep affection for them to continue moving forward./.

In 2024 alone, the Association of War Veterans in districts, towns and cities mobilized resources to support the construction of 90 houses and repair of 97 Comrades' houses, with a total cost of nearly 11 billion VND.
