The Vietnamese women's volleyball team has just created a miracle at the world-class playground. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team created a big surprise when they excellently defeated the Belgian team (ranked 13th in the world) to win the prestigious bronze medal at the 2024 World Challenger Volleyball Cup. This achievement is more special than ever, as this is the first victory of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team against a team from Europe. At the same time, the Belgian team (ranked 13th in the world) is also the highest-ranked team that Vietnam has ever faced.
In the historic victory of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen was considered a key factor. The hitter from Vinh Long scored a total of 77 points. Especially in the third-place match against the Belgian team, Bich Tuyen shone brightly when she contributed 35 points. The 24-year-old main striker also made fans admire when she made an attacking smash that scored a score at a speed of up to 107 km/h, in the match where the Vietnamese women's volleyball team won 3-1 against Belgium.
According to statistics from the World Volleyball Federation, Bich Tuyen ranked first in the categories of best attacker and top scorer at the 2024 World Challenger Volleyball Cup.
For the first time sharing with the media after the successful tournament with the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen expressed: "This is the first time I have participated in an international tournament of such a large scale with the team, I feel a bit bewildered. I am very proud to be able to participate and help the team achieve such a high result, which is considered the history of Vietnamese volleyball.
Evaluating her opponents at the 2024 Challenger Volleyball World Cup, Bich Tuyen said that athletes from Europe have superior physiques compared to Vietnamese athletes. Therefore, the hitter from Vinh Long said that she has learned many lessons in both attack and defense.
With 77 goals, Bich Tuyen is the athlete with the most points at the 2024 Challenger Volleyball World Cup, 23 points ahead of the second place. As the core of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, the "scoring machine" from Vinh Long remains modest: "Actually, I didn't think I would win such good titles. My teammates and I just tried our best to bring the overall results for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team."
Bich Tuyen scored 77 points after 3 matches and has an offensive smash with a speed of up to 107 km/h.
According to information from the coaching staff, the Vietnam women's volleyball team will add 3 U.20 players: Dang Thi Hong, Pham Quynh Huong, Nguyen Van Ha. Meanwhile, 3 players currently playing for the Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc Information Corps Club: Lam Oanh, Kieu Trinh, Pham Hien will return to the club to compete in the expanded Army volleyball tournament. The Vietnam women's volleyball team will train in Quang Ninh, before participating in the Shanghai International Volleyball Tournament (China) from July 18 to 28.
This tournament has representatives from Croatia, Canada, Brazil, France, Japan, Thailand and host China, but all teams bring their youth teams. Competing with strong volleyball teams is a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese volleyball players, especially young players, to hone their skills and experience in the field.
