DNVN - The Green Economy Forum and Exhibition 2024 (GEFE 2024) will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from October 21-23, with the participation of leading European corporations and enterprises. This is an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the European and Vietnamese business communities, contributing to promoting a green and sustainable Vietnamese economy.
Speaking at a press conference introducing the “Green Economy Forum and Exhibition 2024” (GEFE 2024), EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier said that GEFE is the flagship cooperation event of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham). GEFE aims for greener, more sustainable growth and is an opportunity to collaborate with European businesses that are leading the way in the public-private sector towards a greener future.
After 4 years of the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) coming into effect (August 1, 2020 - August 1, 2024), the proportion of Vietnam's export goods to the EU market has increased and Vietnam has become the country with the largest market share compared to other countries in the ASEAN region exporting to the EU.

“EU businesses will accompany and support Vietnam in its orientation to become a developed country by 2045. I would like to emphasize the ASEAN aspects in GEFE 2024, because this is a regional event with not only European businesses but also businesses in the region - this is a great opportunity for both sides.
We are committed to working with Vietnam in the process of transforming the green economy and GEFE is a destination to introduce European technology towards a greener future,” Mr. Julien Guerrier affirmed.
Representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Agency said that after more than 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the relationship between Vietnam and the EU has developed rapidly in both breadth and depth.
Trade turnover of goods has increased more than 4 times, trade in services has increased more than 2 times over the past 30 years. In the first 6 months of 2024, the EU was Vietnam's second largest export market (after the US), a leading investor, present in all important economic sectors of Vietnam.
“Trade relations are considered an important premise to promote political cooperation and cooperative activities between the EU and Vietnam on the basis of mutual benefit. As of August 2024, the EU is Vietnam's fourth largest trading partner, while Vietnam is the EU's largest trading partner in the ASEAN bloc,” Mr. Phu emphasized.
According to Mr. Alain Cany - Co-Chair of GEFE Organizing Committee and Chairman of EuroCham Vietnam Advisory Board, GEFE 2024 has the same concept and location as GEFE 2022 but the content will be different. Accordingly, the event will have both a forum and an exhibition.
With the theme “Creating a Green Future”, GEFE 2024 promotes innovation, economic growth, and sustainability. This is the first time the event has had close cooperation not only with the EU community but also beyond that framework with activities from a number of non-EU countries such as Switzerland, Norway, the UK, etc.
GEFE 2024 will have more than 200 businesses and exhibitors participating, of which Vietnam has 24 businesses and the Netherlands alone has more than 50 businesses. As for the forum, there will be about 30 conferences and seminars with 150 speakers, speakers sharing specific information and expertise on technology and issues related to policies and regulations related to sustainable development and green transformation.
GEFE 2024 will take place at ThiskyHall, Ho Chi Minh City from October 21-23 to promote Vietnam-EU sustainable development cooperation through comprehensive dialogue sessions, investment coordination, economic exhibitions, knowledge sharing and technology transfer. The main objective of GEFE 2024 is to support Vietnam in achieving its COP26 commitments and completing the socio-economic development goals outlined in the National Strategy for Green Growth for the period 2021-2030.
To support Vietnamese enterprises to directly access leading European corporations and enterprises in various fields, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will organize a Business-to-Business (B2B) Conference between Vietnamese and European enterprises. This is considered a great opportunity to enhance cooperation between the European and Vietnamese business communities, contributing to promoting a green and sustainable Vietnamese economy through sharing initiatives, ideas and technology transfer.
