These days, despite the frequent storms, Dang Huy Man - a delivery man (shipper) in Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City) - still sticks around on the streets. The male shipper shared that the more the weather makes people limit their movement on the streets, the more opportunities he has to make money.
“On rainy days, not only does the demand for orders increase, but delivery fees are also supported. Accordingly, the heavier the rain, the longer the delivery distance, the higher the service fee. Compared to the beginning of the rainy season, the number of orders has increased by about 20-30%, especially during peak hours. Thanks to that, daily income has also improved by 50,000 - 80,000 VND/day,” said Mr. Man.
However, according to Mr. Man, compared to this time last year, the number of orders is still not the same because the number of shippers is increasing, the competition to receive orders is high: "During the peak months of the rainy season last year, I received orders continuously, and my income sometimes reached 500,000 VND/day. But now I only get about 300,000 VND/day."
Ms. Le Hong Diem - owner of a beverage shop in Ninh Kieu district (Can Tho city) - said that due to the stormy weather, the number of customers coming to the shop to drink has decreased significantly. Meanwhile, the number of customers ordering online and requesting home delivery has increased, accounting for about 60% of the number of orders each day.
“The shop has few customers, but thanks to online sales, orders are still received continuously, especially at noon and in the afternoon. The number of customers placing orders online accounts for almost half of the shop's total orders. Revenue on rainy days is only equal to or higher than normal days. Because the amount of drinks sold is similar, the shop has less expenses such as electricity, water, etc. because it only sells take-out,” Ms. Diem shared.
Since the rainy season began, the demand for pet care has increased, so the revenue of Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia's shop (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) has also increased. Bathing, trimming, and drying fur are services chosen by many customers with service prices ranging from 70,000 - 400,000 VND/time, depending on the size of the pet.
“For the past 2 months, the weather has changed and it has rained a lot, so on average every 1-2 weeks, customers will bring their pets to my store to have their fur trimmed, bathed, etc. Because if they do it themselves at home, the fur is not dried properly, making pets susceptible to fur and skin diseases. Thanks to that, my store earns from 130 to 150 million VND/month (excluding expenses), 30 to 50 million VND/month higher than normal times,” said Mr. Nghia.
