This is her first overseas trip since Ms. Kamikawa succeeded Mr. Yoshimasa Hayashi as head of Japan's Foreign Ministry last week.
According to the ministry, Ms. Kamikawa will attend the meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) leading industrialized countries on September 18. She will chair the G7 meeting in the context of Japan holding the rotating presidency of the group this year.
It is expected that during the talks with Mr. Blinken, Foreign Minister Kamikawa will affirm the efforts of cooperation between the countries to find solutions to Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, North Korea's nuclear and missile development programs and many other issues.
On September 14, one day after the Japanese Cabinet reshuffle, Ms. Kamikawa had her first phone call with the US Secretary of State, in which she affirmed that Tokyo will "fulfill its role as G7 chair to maintain and strengthen the free and open international order based on the rule of law."
In addition, the two sides agreed to cooperate to further enhance the deterrence and response capabilities of the US-Japan alliance in the context of an increasingly unstable regional security environment.
