When participating in traffic, vehicle drivers must be self-aware, strictly comply with traffic rules, and ensure safety for themselves and others. Vehicle owners and drivers must be responsible before the law for ensuring the safety of their vehicles participating in road traffic.
Drivers must drive on the right side of the road, in the correct lane and on the designated road section, and must obey the road signal system.
Drivers who have to reverse while participating in traffic must follow the principles of reversing and ensure safety when reversing.

Accordingly, Article 16 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law stipulates the principles when reversing a vehicle as follows:
“ 1. When reversing, the driver must observe behind, give necessary signals and only reverse when there is no danger.
2. Do not reverse in no-stop areas, on pedestrian crossings, at road intersections, at road intersections at the same level as railways, in areas with obstructed visibility, in road tunnels, or on highways .
Thus, according to Article 16 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the law strictly prohibits drivers from reversing in road tunnels.
Any case of a driver reversing in a road tunnel is considered a violation of road traffic laws and will be considered for punishment according to the provisions of Decree 46/2016/ND-CP, specifically as follows: A fine of VND 800,000 to VND 1,200,000 shall be imposed on drivers of cars and similar vehicles who reversing in a road tunnel. A fine of VND 800,000 to VND 1,000,000 shall be imposed on drivers of tractors and specialized motorbikes who reversing in a road tunnel.
