Recognizing that it is time for CMC to declare itself as a leading digital technology enterprise, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung pointed out that the only way for CMC to grow is to take on big tasks, linked to the national mission, and complete them.
Contribute to bringing Vietnam into the era of strong growth
On the afternoon of October 25, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung chaired a working session of the Ministry with leaders and key officials of CMC - a company that has been operating in the technology sector for 31 years. Attending the working session with CMC were also Deputy Ministers Nguyen Thanh Lam, Bui Hoang Phuong and leaders of several units in the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The fact that the Ministry of Information and Communications invited CMC to work and discuss the Group's future development path and orientation shows that the Ministry's leaders recognize and appreciate the enterprise's contributions to the industry and the country; at the same time, it also shows confidence that CMC can become a large digital technology enterprise, with a name not only domestically but also internationally.
At the beginning of the working session, besides presenting a short clip reviewing the main features of CMC's 30-year journey, Mr. Dang Tung Son, Vice President in charge of CMC strategy, reported on the production and business results, some key activities of the unit in the first half of the 2024 fiscal year; and especially updated on the business development orientation until 2028.
Expressing great expectations that CMC will develop into a leading Vietnamese digital technology enterprise, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung also hopes that the company's leadership team and key staff will have new awareness and determination to contribute to Vietnam's digital transformation revolution, bringing Vietnam into an era of strong national growth.
Pointing out the requirement that CMC must master technology, the head of the information and communications industry emphasized: General Secretary To Lam has officially declared that Vietnam must master technology, especially when determining that digital transformation is the path for Vietnam to become a developed country.
To master technology and the country's digital transformation process, the path that CMC and Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are recommended to take is to spend on research and development and move from mastering applications to mastering technology.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that now is the time for CMC to declare itself as one of the leading enterprises, a large enterprise in digital technology, not only domestically but also internationally.
To achieve the goals of being 'leading, large, international', there is no other way but for CMC to take on big tasks, tasks related to the national mission and complete them.
"If businesses want to grow and survive with the nation, they must attach themselves to the national mission," said Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung.
Need to convert internal numbers first, focus on narrow AI
During the more than 4 hours of the working session, most of the time was spent by Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Ministers and leaders of units in the Ministry of Information and Communications on thoroughly answering recommendations and questions regarding development directions as well as suggesting and proposing specific areas of work that CMC needs to focus on in the coming time.
For example, to remove obstacles for CMC in implementing procedures for investing in land to build landing stations for new submarine optical cables, the leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications instructed CMC to carefully study the regulations in the new Land Law and discuss with the Department of Telecommunications so that the Ministry can advise the Prime Minister to issue a document requesting provinces to plan land to build landing stations for submarine optical cables, contributing to improving the sustainability of the international telecommunications network and ensuring national security.
Regarding concerns about development space, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung noted that, in addition to considering whether that space is a 'blue sea', deserted, and no one has thought of and done it yet; businesses also need to understand that they can do it in old spaces, where many people have done it, if they have a new and unique approach.
“The fields of the information and communications industry such as telecommunications, digital technology, digital infrastructure, network security... are always new. Therefore, our industry does not have to think much about finding new spaces. The problem is whether businesses dare to do it and do it thoroughly?!” , Minister Nguyen Manh Hung pointed out.
Regarding the concerns of CMC's Board of Directors in choosing the technology sector to focus on investment and development, the leader of the Ministry of Information and Communications suggested: If a business has an IoT development strategy, it should consider AI and semiconductor chips as two parallel branches, both of which need to be done.
Regarding AI development, the advice for CMC as well as Vietnamese digital technology enterprises is to focus on narrow AI, specialized AI, private AI, AI for individuals and businesses. Enterprises can even just create a platform for individuals and organizations to create their own virtual assistants by entering their data.
Along with the requirement that CMC must have technology products that create its own brand, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung also reminded the unit that before going to digital transformation for other enterprises, it needs to digitally transform its own unit first. Because, from internal digital transformation, the unit will understand many things, know what digital transformation is, and then doing digital transformation for other enterprises will be easier.
Emphasizing that as a large enterprise, CMC needs to focus on doing fundamental and infrastructure work, the head of the IT&T industry also affirmed that the Ministry of Information and Communications is always the 'home' of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises, a place for enterprises to call and seek support when facing difficulties.
"The Ministry of Information and Communications determines that if digital technology enterprises do not develop, ministries and sectors will not develop, and the story of national digital transformation will not be possible," Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung pointed out.
Thanking the Minister, Deputy Ministers and leaders of units in the Ministry of Information and Communications for their frank and dedicated contributions to help the Group develop further, CMC Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh affirmed that, in addition to the goal of developing his business, the CMC team also wishes to contribute to the development of the country, bringing Vietnamese intelligence abroad, affirming Vietnam's position in the international arena.
“To realize the very challenging development goals and orientations that have been set, in addition to the Group's efforts, we hope to continue to receive the companionship, support, guidance, assistance and help of the Ministry of Information and Communications,” Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh shared.
