VFF agreed to let Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club change its name to MerryLand Quy Nhon Binh Dinh. Notably, this is the second time this team has changed its name in just 3 months. In mid-September 2023, they announced a name change from Topenland Binh Dinh to Quy Nhon Binh Dinh with many meanings about the regional characteristics of the team's base.
But this time, VFF was forced to grant an exception because Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club violated an element of the Vietnam Professional Football Regulations. The Central team requested to change its name to VFF "while the season is in progress". Clause 4, Article 8 of the Professional Football Regulations does not allow this. Up to now, the 2023/2024 V.League season has been held for 3 rounds.
Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club requests to change name.
If counting only in V.League this year, Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club is the third team to change its name. Previously, HAGL and Viettel were the first two teams to request a name change and were both granted exceptions. Viettel Club wishes to reuse the traditional name "The Cong" with the official name The Cong - Viettel FC.
Meanwhile, HAGL Football Club found a new sponsor, LP Bank, which also sponsors the Hanoi Police Club. However, HAGL's case violated more factors. The new name of the team is "LP Bank - HAGL" with the logo/name of a third party (whether a partner or sponsor), this name is not a business name associated with the locality. At the same time, the request to change the name was sent when the V.League was taking place.
According to the Vietnam Professional Football Regulations, football teams are allowed to apply for an exception to change their name and the decision is made by the Executive Board of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). Up to now, the VFF has agreed to grant an exception to all 3 cases of name change requests.
MerryLand Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club will change its name from round 4 of V.League. They will have a trip to play away at Hanoi FC.
