On April 27, Mr. Truong Khac Truong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Co island district (Quang Tri), said that the erection of a tiger statue at the wharf of Con Co island is almost completed.

This is the tiger statue made by artisan Dinh Van Tam (residing in Trieu Do commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri) since the Lunar New Year 2022. At that time, when it was displayed at Le Duan park (Dong Ha city), this tiger statue was "in" thousands of souvenir photos of people inside and outside Quang Tri province.
With its majestic, brave appearance, large body, and friendly face, this tiger is warmly welcomed by the community. Many people even favorably put it in the "top" of the most beautiful tiger mascots in the country.
Tiger suddenly appeared on Con Co island
After completing its "mission" of being displayed in the park during Tet, this tiger statue was brought to Dong Ha Urban Environment and Construction Company to be kept for nearly 2 years.
"Knowing this, we contacted Dong Ha Urban Construction and Environment Company to transfer the tiger to Con Co Island for tourism purposes," said Mr. Truong.
The tiger's position is right next to Con Co wharf.
Explaining the reason for building a tiger statue and not another animal, Mr. Truong said that Con Co Island used to have many names, including "Tiger Island". "We brought the tiger statue to place right at the wharf so that tourists can see it and check-in right away when they take a boat to the island. Hopefully this will be a small but interesting experience for tourists," Mr. Truong added.
The tiger statue was given a new "dress" when it arrived on the island.
The redecoration of the tiger statue is now complete.
However, the tiger mascot statue was not left in its original state when it was brought from the mainland to the island but was "edited" to look new. Talking to Thanh Nien , artisan Dinh Van Tam said that after accepting the invitation of the Con Co island district government, he went to the island at the beginning of the week to repaint the tiger statue. The work is now basically complete, the tiger statue is ready to "welcome" tourists.
This mascot tiger statue was displayed at Le Duan Park (Dong Ha City) during the Year of the Tiger and caused a stir.
Artist Dinh Van Tam is also the "father" of this cat.
In addition to the tiger mascot statue that caused a fever during the Lunar New Year 2022, artisan Dinh Van Tam is also the "father" of the "cat beauty queen" displayed during the Lunar New Year 2023. The cat statue carved by artisan Tam is placed in the square of Ai Tu Town (Trieu Phong District, Quang Tri), becoming a check-in spot for many people.
