Back to the village
In late August, to prepare for the new school year, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (teacher at Co Trang school, Truong Son Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities) went to each household in the village to encourage the children to go to class.
With 15 years of working here, she understands the students as well as the people. To help parents understand the importance of studying, Ms. Yen goes to each house to explain and confide. The teachers here are always aware that special methods are needed to bring students to class.
First of all, class size is something teachers think about. Preparing for the new school year, from mid-August, each teacher visits each family, coordinating with the departments and organizations to encourage students to go to class.
“To help students learn, I have improved my knowledge and learned the local language to get closer to them and understand their thoughts and aspirations. This has made it easier for me to motivate and explain the learning process to their parents,” Ms. Yen confided.
Next to her, teacher Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh (Co Trang school) began the story: "Returning to the village after many years of studying far away, I feel close but also strange with a new position - the person who brings knowledge to the students here."
Understanding the hardships of the people, and sympathizing with the children of her hometown, Ms. Quynh left the city, returned to her hometown to devote herself to education. She said that after more than 10 years of "staying station", what she realized was that the people valued kindness, simplicity, and kindness, and that students wanted to learn. So leaving the crowded city, she was determined to return to her hometown to help the "children" there.
But when she returned to her village, Ms. Quynh encountered many difficulties right in this remote border area. Truong Son has Kinh people and Van Kieu ethnic people, with different customs and practices. In addition, transportation in Truong Son is still difficult and isolated.
Ms. Quynh continued: “When teachers come to teach in difficult areas, they always prepare themselves mentally. They come to the students with all their heart and passion. They shake hands and guide them through the smallest things, because the students here have a different starting point than those in the lowlands.”
Ready for the new school year
Principal of Truong Son Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities Nguyen Thi Thu said that the teachers "in the remote areas" are like a bridge connecting the school with students and parents.
“They are both teachers and companions to the students in the teaching and learning process. Not only in terms of expertise, each teacher here also gains life experiences and new knowledge to help understand the thoughts and feelings of the people,” said Ms. Thu.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, the school has 8 locations, 21 classes with 320 students, of which 220 are Van Kieu ethnic minority students. In order to bring knowledge to students, each teacher of the school is always aware of their responsibility.
Teachers from the lowlands will come to the commune and school to arrange convenient teaching locations for commuting, encouraging each teacher's spirit during the teaching process.
“The new school year is about to begin. Since mid-August, the preparation program for first graders has been implemented. First graders are allowed to go to class to prepare for their first lessons,” Ms. Thu informed.
The new school year is about to begin, teachers in the border area are preparing for a new generation of students, a new luggage for the "little ones" of Truong Son.
