Ahead of the State visit of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife to the People's Republic of China from August 18-20, speaking with a VNA reporter in Beijing, journalist Wei Wei, Head of the Vietnamese Service of China Central Radio and Television, said that General Secretary and President To Lam's choice of China as the first country to visit after taking office fully demonstrates the high regard of the Vietnamese Party and State for developing the friendly neighborly relationship and comprehensive and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and China. According to Mr. Wei Wei - who is also an expert in Vietnam, China and Vietnam are connected by mountains and rivers, and have a relationship based on the spirit of "four goods" including "good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, good partners", China always views its relationship with Vietnam from a strategic height and long-term vision. The Vietnamese Party and Government also attach great importance to its relationship with China. After taking office, General Secretary and President To Lam repeatedly stated that Vietnam always considers developing relations with China a strategic choice and a top priority in foreign policy. According to Mr. Wei Wei, the political regimes of China and Vietnam are similar, their beliefs and ideals are shared, and their development paths are similar. In recent years, high-level exchanges between China and Vietnam have been very close, achieving many practical cooperation results. The two countries have learned from and consulted each other, joining hands on the path of socialism in accordance with the situation of each country and the unique modernization path of each country. Economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has become a bright spot in bilateral relations. Vietnam continues to be China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's fifth largest global trading partner. China is Vietnam's largest trading partner, largest import market, and second largest export market. In recent years, high-quality agricultural products such as dragon fruit and durian from Vietnam have been very popular with Chinese consumers. A series of projects implemented by Chinese enterprises in Vietnam have strongly promoted the socio-economic development of the locality. Expert Wei Wei said that the purpose of this visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to China is to continue to strengthen mutual political trust between the two countries, continue the traditional friendship between the two countries, and deepen the building of a community of shared future between Vietnam and China of strategic significance. In 2023, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping visited Vietnam, and the two sides announced a new position in the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries, joining hands to build a "Community of Shared Future between China and Vietnam of strategic significance" on the basis of deepening the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

According to Mr. Wei Wei, the new position in the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries is not only in line with the common interests of the two Parties, governments and peoples of the two countries, but also beneficial to the peace and development of the region and the world. The two sides need to consult each other, develop together, and add new vitality to the cause of building socialism in each country. Currently, both China and Vietnam are boldly moving towards great goals on the new journey of reform and development of each country.
