(Dan Tri) - Candidates need to carefully consider when choosing 2 elective subjects in the 2025 high school graduation exam that are suitable for their abilities and meet the admission combination of the desired university.
Dr. Le Thi Thanh Mai, former Head of Student Affairs Department, Ho Chi Minh City National University, "advised" candidates on how to choose 2 elective subjects in the 2025 high school graduation exam at the admissions consulting program "Right career - Bright future" held at Ten Lo Man High School, Ho Chi Minh City on January 6.
The program will be held at more than 100 high schools in Ho Chi Minh City and more than 400 schools in 20 provinces and cities in the Southeast, West, and Central regions... with hundreds of thousands of students benefiting.

Dr. Le Thi Thanh Mai shared that the 2025 high school graduation exam is the first exam under the 2018 General Education Program. Candidates will take two compulsory subjects: literature and math, and two elective subjects from among the selected subjects.
Paying attention to this year's 12th grade students, Dr. Mai emphasized that choosing elective subjects must ensure the principles including being in the group of elective subjects, being one's strengths, and meeting the admission combination of the desired universities.
This year, the high school graduation exam will only have 4 subjects, 2 subjects less than previous years. Each student will have 4 admission combinations, which, according to Ms. Mai, puts the responsibility on students to accurately determine their career, major, and school, in conjunction with the admission combination.
This admissions expert also believes that candidates can create more opportunities for themselves by taking part in university-specific exams, competency assessment exams, etc.
Candidates can consider which university they want to attend and which major they want to pursue to proactively create advantages for themselves.
According to Dr. Le Thi Thanh Mai, the 2025 high school graduation exam scores will continue to be used by many universities as admission scores.
Universities will continue to research and announce admission methods, in which new subjects such as information technology, economic education and law will also be used by many schools in the admission combination corresponding to the majors requiring subject knowledge.
Therefore, students need to pay attention to the admission methods. Once they have decided which elective subjects and admission combinations to choose, they need to keep their mentality stable.
At this time, Dr. Mai advised that students need to systematize their knowledge, stabilize their psychology, pay attention to the exam structure to get used to new formats in the exam, to get high results in the high school graduation exam.
If you want to use your transcripts for university admission, you need to pay attention to your 12th grade grades. This year, in general, the quota for considering transcripts of schools has decreased compared to previous years.
Dr. Pham Tan Ha, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, informed that the school's enrollment method in 2025 will be basically stable as last year.
Admission methods include priority admission and direct admission, using Ho Chi Minh City's capacity assessment test scores; admission based on high school graduation exam results.
Admission based on academic records will only be applied to the top 149 high schools according to regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University, not to the general public.
However, students who win prizes in national and city competitions for excellent students, movement competitions, sports and cultural activities, etc. are still entitled to be considered based on their academic records.

Psychology Master Che Da Thao expressed that exams always have variables, if candidates do not have enough courage, they will turn variables into incidents.
The 2025 exam has many changes, candidates need to be careful in receiving information in the first exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Only when having full, clear and accurate information, can students choose the right direction.
According to this expert, candidates need to be selective in receiving information from official sources, avoiding vague information such as studying this major will make it difficult to find a job, possibly leading to unemployment; studying that major will give them a high income...
