Kinhtedothi - The scientific workshop "Current situation and solutions to urgent issues in environmental protection in Hanoi Capital" held on March 14 recorded many initiatives to clean up To Lich River water from experts and scientists.
The river cleaning campaign is of special concern.
The scientific workshop “Current situation and solutions to urgent issues in environmental protection in Hanoi Capital” recorded many presentations and comments from delegates and summarized 49 articles published in the proceedings. All are noteworthy initiatives and proposals on solutions in environmental protection in the Capital.
In particular, the field of surface water pollution, typically river pollution, has received great attention from delegates, experts, scientists, managers and businesses.
The paper titled “Current situation and solutions to urgent problems in environmental protection in Hanoi wastewater treatment” by authors Le Thanh and Nguyen Phuong Quy from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology presented quite comprehensively the solutions to treat wastewater pollution.
Researchers took water samples from various sources such as the West Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Cau Nga Wastewater Treatment Plant, and some sections of the To Lich River. The results showed that, despite investment in wastewater treatment technology, most projects have not taken into account the replenishment of water for rivers and lakes.
From the above results, the research team proposed criteria for selecting appropriate wastewater treatment technology. It is a modern technology, meeting high standards, aiming at high world standards, but at the same time, the land area is small, suitable for Hanoi conditions, and the design is suitable for the landscape, with economical investment and operation costs.
In particular, it is necessary to replenish treated wastewater for rivers and lakes. The urgent solution proposed by the research team is to accelerate investment in wastewater collection and treatment in inner-city areas (12 old inner-city districts). In particular, the basin has new urban areas that need to invest in collection systems. Investors can invest in wastewater treatment plants or connect to the expanded Ho Tay wastewater treatment plant to add water to the To Lich River from the source.
As for the upper To Lich River basin, because it is in the investment preparation stage, under the PPP form, expected to be completed in 2027, the research team proposed adjusting the sub-basin collection to the expanded Ho Tay Wastewater Treatment Plant to supplement the To Lich River.
Another solution proposed by the research team is to replenish water for the To Lich River. Accordingly, it is necessary to immediately replenish the sewer line of about 1.56km from Xuan La sewer to bring treated wastewater from the Ho Tay Wastewater Treatment Plant to replenish the To Lich River from the upstream. In addition, it is possible to bring 86,000m3/day to the expanded Ho Tay Wastewater Treatment Plant, and 101,000m3/day of treated wastewater from the plant to replenish the To Lich River; at the same time, Thanh Liet dam is built, using more treated wastewater from the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant from the downstream.
The city will create the most favorable conditions for the initiatives to be implemented.
Concluding the workshop, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh thanked and acknowledged the valuable suggestions and contributions of scientists and environmental experts, and assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with the Hanoi Institute for Socio-Economic Development to fully absorb the opinions at the workshop; continue to carefully study the papers submitted to the workshop to synthesize and complete the report, in which urgent and specific solutions to handle environmental pollution in the capital are proposed.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the Hanoi Institute for Socio-Economic Development to advise the City People's Committee on developing a coordination program between the City and research institutes, organizations, experts, and scientists to study ways to thoroughly solve the environmental pollution problem in Hanoi, focusing first on treating air pollution and cleaning up inner-city rivers.
"The city will create the most favorable conditions for initiatives and innovative ideas to be soon implemented, making practical contributions to the socio-economic development of the capital and the country," affirmed Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh.
