When it comes to improving the quality of agricultural products and making a mark on the international market, businesses share that they have to be meticulous in every step, from inventorying all production and processing processes to customer care and market expansion.
There are even businesses that "stand on the shoulders of giants" and systematically invest in technology for their operational chains to create a difference...
Bringing profit to many parties…
Many businesses directly connect and work together to increase efficiency; some people "lift" foreign production technology models to improve quality, increase output prices; and then increase input agricultural product purchasing prices...
An example is GC Food Company (Dong Nai) - this is the largest aloe vera and coconut jelly processing enterprise in Vietnam and has reached out to more than 20 countries, including demanding markets such as Japan, Korea, EU...
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, director of GC Food Company, the company is as bright as it is today because it has overcome many… not-so-bright stages.
“From the first day of selling Vietnamese aloe vera to Korea, it was like a child being born and entering society, meaning the company encountered many competitors with more strengths and potential. I told myself that if I wanted to be better, I had to do well in all stages.
Only by linking profits to each stage can we maintain the quality of agricultural products. The impression I will always remember is that there was a group of Middle Eastern customers looking to buy aloe vera just because they heard about the fragrance of Vietnamese aloe vera," said Mr. Thu.
Remembering the many times farmers “reneged” on their orders and the many times the processing process encountered problems, order interruptions, and negotiations were not smooth… so “taking care” of each link to have good quality agricultural products is the key method for processed Vietnamese aloe vera to be present in the world.
“We must firmly grasp the connection from farmers, raw materials, production to consumers. When there are good products, sold at high prices, then businesses will come back to buy at higher prices than before. With high prices, farmers will be more “enthusiastic” about farming, and the quality of agricultural products will gradually improve,” said Mr. Thu.
Once a small-scale product with unstable prices, sometimes even having to "look red-eyed" to find a place to buy, now farmers in Ninh Thuan grow aloe vera in a closed chain, with some places earning an average profit of 300 million VND/ha.
Famous for exporting Vietnamese pepper, accounting for more than 15% of the market share in the European market in just 9 months of this year, Mr. Phan Minh Thong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phuc Sinh Joint Stock Company, also known as a coffee processing and exporting enterprise, is currently bringing back a lot of "sweet fruits".
Among many stories to be proud of, Mr. Thong is most proud of bringing joy to coffee growers in Son La. That is, Phuc Sinh buys coffee at a higher price than other raw material regions, because the price of Arabica coffee in Son La exported to the US is very high.
“I imported machinery from Colombia, by sea to Hai Phong to build a standard processing factory like those in foreign countries. Resources from Colombia with leading machinery and experts… have helped produce higher quality coffee products, selling at higher prices.
This year, the factory in Son La has 8,000 tons of coffee, 400 containers sold out without a single bean left. The Phuc Sinh Blue Son La coffee brand is currently very popular with customers, word of mouth has spread throughout Europe and the Middle East," Mr. Thong confidently said.
Mr. Thong believes: “There is no reason not to buy coffee for people at a high price, so that they can make good products for themselves. Because I already have huge customers. As long as the agricultural products are good and sustainable, foreign currency will be in hand. Not to mention creating jobs for employees, workers and farmers in the growing areas… Harmonious profits, together “win – win” (both sides win, both benefit – PV) will go a long way, go further”.

"Bearing" the responsibility of promoting economic development
When agricultural products reach the international market, many entrepreneurs believe that business is no longer a personal story of each enterprise, but also "shoulders" the responsibility of promoting economic development, following a new trend: linked to the environment and society. Only then can businesses develop sustainably.
According to Mr. Thong, success in the international market, when building quality for Vietnamese agricultural products, will be proportional to bringing value to promote economic growth.
In 2024, Phuc Sinh is confident of earning more than 190 million USD in pepper and coffee exports; because after 9 months, it has brought in more than 145 million USD.
“When there are high-quality agricultural products, it will not be difficult for businesses to constantly seek and cooperate with the world's leading companies and corporations. The results are very clear when we perfect the key to sustainable development ESG (environment, society and governance).
Since then, many international businesses have registered to work with Phuc Sinh; many international financial organizations have invested capital, even providing non-refundable grants. Money will generate money, raising the level of business to contribute to the economy," said Mr. Thong.
However, according to Mr. Thong, bringing economic value, in the trend of sustainable business, associated with the social environment, protecting ecological resources, forests... is a development direction that the Vietnamese agricultural export business community cannot be separated from.
With the world's leading country in rice export, promoting the industry's economy towards developing national brands is a story that in recent years, rice exporting enterprises have been very "aware".
Mr. Pham Thanh Trung, a rice factory owner in An Giang province, said that many Vietnamese rice exporting enterprises in the world now have a sustainable business foundation according to international standards. As a result, this year, Vietnamese rice exports brought in more than 5 billion USD, a record so far.
“We have created a good reputation for the best quality Vietnamese fragrant rice products. As a result, rice prices were at one point the highest in the world.
I am also a business, not only for my own benefit, but also for my responsibility to contribute to the economy through my business activities. Expanding the market, diversifying product segments, taking care of international customers… to make the business more solid,” said Mr. Trung.
Agricultural exports set a record of over 46 billion USD after 9 months
Mr. Phung Duc Tien - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - informed that although the economy is still facing difficulties, agricultural exports in the first 9 months of 2024 are considered a bright spot, bringing in more than 46 billion USD, an increase of 21%.
Recently, Mr. Tien made a forecast: "In 2024, the agricultural export sector could reach 61 billion USD, the highest number ever."
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it is coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, embassies... to continue supporting businesses in trade promotion, finding import partners; removing barriers set by countries and increasing official exports to reduce risks.
