“As if there had never been a separation” was broadcast on VTV1 from December 1, 2007. For 10 years, television viewers have been accustomed to waiting until the first Saturday night of the month to watch with their loved ones the heart-wrenching stories of separation, the searches filled with humanity, and the tearful moments of reunion.
By 2018, the program was broadcast on VTV9 and several other TV channels. Young audiences gradually followed the program on Youtube, Fanpage and Tiktok more. But a large number of loyal audiences who were older or lived far from urban areas thought that “As if there had never been a separation” was no longer active and expressed regret.
Meanwhile, the search and reunification of Vietnamese families continues. The team “As if there had never been a separation” is doing specialized work such as searching and telling stories through photos, while also seeking support from individual donors to maintain the operation.
In the episode marking its return to VTV1, “As if there had never been a separation” titled “Where the land is fertile” tells the story of 50 years after the war ended, a little girl left the fertile land along the Vu Gia River, Dai Loc, Quang Nam, and was able to return to her homeland when she was a woman over 60 years old, exhausted from missing her blood relatives.
In 2025, VTV viewers will watch emotional stories of separation and reunion every month: a beautiful love story that had to be separated because of the front line; a 5-year-old boy who went with his brother to the first Mid-Autumn Festival of Peace in 1975 and got lost but was able to return to his family; children of Vietnamese origin but grew up abroad due to various circumstances are coming back one by one to meet their birth mothers, to know who they are...
In response to the audience's love, "As if there had never been a separation" is actively searching for and organizing reunions faster, while producing high-quality television programs.
The crew sees the return to broadcasting on VTV as a great opportunity to reach out to those who are still separated, helping them find their families; at the same time, to let the community know more about the work of those who carry out this volunteer activity in an effort to create "miracles" of reunion.
