The program aims to commemorate the heroic sacrifices of the heroic martyrs on the legendary Truong Bon road on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the historical event Truong Bon (October 31, 1968 - October 31, 2023).
Attending the program were comrades: Nguyen Xuan Thang - Politburo member, Director of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Nguyen Sinh Hung - former Politburo member, former Chairman of the National Assembly.
Comrades of the Party Central Committee: Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education; Hoang Trung Dung - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Ha Tinh Province; Nguyen Manh Cuong - Secretary of the Binh Phuoc Provincial Party Committee and comrade Bui Quang Huy - Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; together with former members of the Party Central Committee, representatives of central departments, ministries, branches, Military Region 4, provinces, cities, and sponsors.
On the side of Nhan Dan Newspaper, there were comrade Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Deputy Editors-in-Chief, representatives of departments, boards and offices.
Leaders of Nghe An province include comrades: Thai Thanh Quy - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Nguyen Van Thong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Hoang Nghia Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; comrades of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; leaders of the Provincial People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, Provincial National Assembly Delegation, departments, branches and localities.
The program was attended by delegates who were relatives and worshipers of the 13 youth volunteer martyrs who sacrificed their lives at Truong Bon on October 31, 1968, historical witnesses and many local people.
A BRIGHT SYMBOL OF REVOLUTIONARY HEROISM
Truong Bon fire coordinates have entered the history of the nation as a tragic epic, about the iron determination "All for the South", "For independence, freedom and national unity" during the years of resistance against the US; this place marks many brutal crimes of war and glorious feats of arms of the combined strength of our army and people.
The legendary Truong Bon route has a particularly important strategic position with an altitude of 70m on the Thung Nua mountain range, the highest peak reaching 450m above sea level. Therefore, this is the place connecting the traffic arteries from the Northern rear to support the South.
Grasping the strategic position of this place, the US imperialists spared no effort in destroying Truong Bon with bombs and shells, in an attempt to cut off our traffic arteries. From 1964 to 1968, the US dropped 18,936 bombs of various types and tens of thousands of missiles on this heroic land, turning this place into a “fire coordinate”.
In the midst of a land plowed by bombs and bullets, when death was always near, tens of thousands of soldiers, traffic workers, youth volunteers and people of Truong Bon still stubbornly held on, overcame hardship and deprivation, day and night stuck to the battlefield, braved the rain of bombs with the iron determination that "the heart can stop beating but the road cannot be blocked", to maintain the traffic blood vessels, dig and build millions of cubic meters of earth and rock, send more than 94 thousand motor vehicles, transport and clear more than 1 million tons of goods through Truong Bon, closely following the troops to the battlefield in the South.
The cadres and soldiers in Truong Bon lived a resilient and heroic life, many of whom did not have time to step foot towards peace. Because the bombs and bullets of the American imperialists destroyed 211 villages and hamlets along the route, killing many people in My Son and Nhan Son communes (Do Luong district); destroying hundreds of cars and hundreds of artillery pieces of our army. Thousands of cadres and soldiers, youth volunteers, workers in the Transport sector, and militiamen were injured; 1,240 cadres and soldiers fought bravely and heroically sacrificed.
On the night of October 31, 1968, with only a few hours left, the US announced a halt to bombing across the North; it was also the last night that the soldiers of Squad 2, Youth Volunteer Company 317 were together, so that the next morning they would say goodbye and return to their hometowns, some going to school, some going to work, some going back to build a home together...
At that time, the squad received a secret order to ensure the road was clear for the military convoy to pass Truong Bon before dawn. Everyone was excited and eager to go to the battlefield. When the work was almost completed, suddenly, groups of American planes roared and rushed to bomb Truong Bon.
The explosions tore the sky apart, the ground shook, and the 2nd Squad did not have time to retreat to the shelter and were immediately crushed under the fierce bombardment. The road was only 120m long but had to endure 170 devastating bombs.
That terrible and brutal bombing took the lives of 11 girls and 2 boys. Their flesh and bones were mixed into the motherland, creating the mark of Truong Bon.
The heroic sacrifice of the heroic martyrs at the Truong Bon “fire coordinates” gave strength to the troops to reach the day of total victory. The blood of the brothers and sisters melted into the soil, adding more color to the national flag, writing a heroic legend about the history of Truong Bon.
Truong Bon has become a sacred land, a shining symbol of the youth volunteer force, of revolutionary heroism in the struggle to liberate the South and unify the country. The place name Truong Bon has gone down in history, becoming a highlight, a source of pride for generations of Vietnamese people.
SPREAD THE ELOQUENTIAL EPIC OF TRUONG BON
On behalf of the program's Organizing Committee, comrade Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association delivered an opening speech expressing deep gratitude to the souls of the 13 martyrs of the 317th Youth Volunteer Company who sacrificed their lives nobly at 6:10 a.m. on October 31, 1968 and to the sacrifices of our predecessors so that we can have the Fatherland, a peaceful life, and sustainable independence today.
“We are here to together promote the morality of remembering the source of water we drink, and the patriotism that has made our nation immortal,” Comrade Le Quoc Minh affirmed.
Remembering the Truong Bon martyrs, the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the country, comrade Le Quoc Minh emphasized: Once again affirming that the People are the creators of history. The superior strength of the Ho Chi Minh era is the strength of the People, of the nation when there is the leadership of the Party, the strength of Ho Chi Minh culture, the inseparability of the flesh-and-blood relationship between the People and the Party.
“The world situation is evolving in a complicated manner, significantly affecting the socio-economic development of the country. But nothing can change the path that the Party and Uncle Ho have chosen, nothing can stop a rising nation. The strength of history is gathering, making a new day come true. The Party in the People, the People in the Party under the banner of Ho Chi Minh's ideology is making every country road full of new strength, spreading its wings for the future,” said comrade Le Quoc Minh.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, speaking at the program, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang - Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council expressed his emotions when attending the special art program "Truong Bon - Heroic Footprints".
This is a meaningful activity, honoring the glorious revolutionary tradition of our army and people in the resistance war against the US to save the country, paying tribute to heroic martyrs, those who contributed to the revolution, especially the 13 heroic youth volunteers of Company 317 who heroically sacrificed at the legendary site of Truong Bon; contributing to strengthening the education of tradition, patriotism, national pride and responsibility of today's generation.
Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang warmly commended and highly appreciated the comprehensive socio-economic achievements of the Party Committee, Government and People of Nghe An province in recent years, especially the work of caring for people with meritorious services, paying attention to building red addresses in educating traditions for the younger generation.
The Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council hopes that this meaningful art program should continue to be maintained, with more good and touching performances about patriotism and revolutionary heroes to serve the masses.
He also hoped that gratitude activities would be increasingly implemented creatively and effectively, continuing to receive practical support from the whole society; and suggested that ministries, branches, localities, agencies, organizations, businesses and people nationwide join hands to better care for the material and spiritual lives of families of martyrs, war invalids, sick soldiers, veterans, former youth volunteers and people with meritorious services to the revolution.
He suggested that the Party Committee, Government and People of Nghe An province, with the support of Nhan Dan Newspaper and other agencies, departments and branches, need to have a long-term plan to preserve and effectively promote the historical, cultural and traditional values at Truong Bon National Historical Relic Site, the proud revolutionary tradition of the province, with many forms of rich and creative propaganda and education of traditions, so that the heroic epic of Truong Bon continues to spread, remaining deep in the hearts of Nghe An people and people across the country.
On this occasion, with deep gratitude, the Organizing Committee of the art program presented 14 savings books to the relatives of 13 martyrs and Mrs. Tran Thi Thong - a historical witness. To join hands with Nghe An province in carrying out social security tasks, Nhan Dan Newspaper, together with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, presented the province with 50 gratitude houses, worth 2.5 billion VND; the Secretariat of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union presented 300 million VND to former youth volunteers and disadvantaged youth in Nghe An province.
Immediately following is the art program "Truong Bon - Heroic Footprints" - Commemorating the 55th anniversary of the historical event Truong Bon to commemorate and honor the heroic sacrifices of the fallen heroes on the legendary Truong Bon route with 2 chapters: "Honorable history" and "Red fire steps towards the future".
With special performances, this year's art program, in addition to professional artists and actors, also has the participation of 150 children of Truong Bon.
Along with that, one of the highlights of the program is the light art performance using drones to form 13 sparkling stars in the night sky, gathering into a large star to commemorate the 13 heroic martyrs of Squad 2, Company 317 who sacrificed on October 31, 1968 and thousands of such stars symbolize thousands, tens of thousands of soldiers who heroically sacrificed to protect the traffic artery, so that the red flag with yellow star can fly in the free sky.
