The art program “Vu Lan - Filial Piety and Nation” will take place at 8:00 p.m. on August 10 at the Hanoi Opera House, broadcast live on Vietnam Television, An Vien Television and social networking sites.
On the afternoon of May 21, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha coordinated with Sen Cong Joint Stock Company to hold a press conference to introduce this program.
According to Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Information and Communications Department, Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Program Organizing Committee, this is a practical activity to celebrate the country's major holidays and the Vu Lan festival of Buddhist calendar 2568-2024, towards welcoming the United Nations Day of Vesak (Vesak) in 2025 hosted by Vietnam.
This is the 10th year that the Central Information and Communications Department and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha have organized this program every "Vu Lan" season.

This year, the program will include special music and dance performances, with cultural influences from three regions, directed by Diep Van.
“Vu Lan is not only a Buddhist holiday but also a national holiday, demonstrating the fine traditions of "When drinking water, remember its source", "When eating fruit, remember the person who planted the tree", reminding each person of noble moral values, filial piety, and the spirit of gratitude and repayment. "'Vu Lan filial piety' is not only the responsibility of each child but also the responsibility of the whole society. We need to join hands to build a filial society, where each child knows how to love, respect and repay their parents' kindness", said Venerable Thich Gia Quang.
This year, the Organizing Committee focused on innovating the structure of the art exchange program, linking the series of social security activities with the journey towards Dien Bien Phu on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.
The art program is meticulously constructed from content to staging design, highlighting the meaning of "Filial piety culture".

The organizers will organize a pilgrimage "Following the footsteps of the Dien Bien soldiers of the past", visiting the A1 National Cemetery, commemorating the heroic martyrs who remained on the Dien Bien battlefield during the fierce years of resistance against the French and giving charity gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and those in difficulty in the locality.
In addition, the program's Organizing Committee plans to donate canteens to preschool children in disadvantaged areas of Dien Bien province, and give gifts and savings books to some Dien Bien veterans... in mid-July 2024.
Through mobilizing entrepreneurs, businesses and philanthropists from all over the country, the Organizing Committee hopes to spread, create remembrance and practice filial piety, join hands to care for, share and help the elderly who are lonely and have no place to rely on, demonstrating the Vietnamese people's morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking water".
The Organizing Committee will also spend part of the budget to give gifts and savings books to some relatives of martyrs who participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, lonely elderly people with no place to rely on, and people facing difficult circumstances in life.
