Series of programs celebrating the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day of Vietnam Television

NDO - To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on Vietnam Television's channels and digital platforms, there will be many special programs with rich content and diverse forms of expression, contributing to inspiring from the past to the present, creating a harmony of peace, unity and aspirations for the country's development.

Speaking at a press conference held on the morning of April 18 in Hanoi about key programs on VTV on this occasion, Mr. Do Thanh Hai, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Television, affirmed: The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification is a special milestone in Vietnam's history. With the role of a key multimedia media agency, Vietnam Television has made a comprehensive preparation plan very early to carry out programs with investment in content, technology and presentation form.

These are programs imbued with history, culture and humanity, not only expressing gratitude and respect for historical values ​​but also connecting generations, igniting national pride and the aspiration to build a bright future for Vietnam.

Right from the beginning of 2025, the 19 o'clock News has officially launched a propaganda campaign with the theme "50 years of Southern Liberation, National Reunification". In the first phase, the news broadcasts 2 special reports each week, gradually increasing the frequency, especially during the peak period, focusing on propaganda.

The system of news bulletins and political columns on channels such as VTV1, VTV8, VTV9, and VTV Can Tho also simultaneously increased the broadcasting of many reports and special topics, realistically depicting the journey of struggle, efforts to innovate, integrate, and develop, deeply reflecting the achievements of the country over the past 50 years, contributing to providing a comprehensive view, inspiring people, especially the young generation, to continue to promote patriotism and aspirations to rise up.

Notably, the national celebration, parade and march on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day - a special event that people across the country and international friends are looking forward to - will be broadcast live on VTV1 from 7:00 a.m. on April 30 (from 6:30 a.m. on VTVgo), conveying the heroic atmosphere from Le Duan Street, Bach Dang Riverside Park, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, and Le Loi Street (Ho Chi Minh City).

The program was carried out on a large scale in terms of technical equipment and transmission: 6 mobile TV vehicles, 2 satellite vehicles, along with more than 200 highly qualified technical staff, reporters and directors from VTV units, to ensure the highest quality of broadcasting.

Highlights in the series of programs commemorating this occasion are VTV Special programs and Documentaries, reflecting historical depth, humanistic values ​​and the spirit of reconciliation.

VTV Special “The Battle of Wills” produced by the Foreign Television Department brings a true story from the perspective of Mr. Craig McNamara - son of former US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, showing his inner turmoil when facing the "legacy of war" created by his own father and the unspoken apology to the Vietnamese people.

VTV Special "Historical Broadcast" produced by the Special Topics-Science and Education Department is not only a reminiscence about the "policy of taking over Saigon television" but also a story about national reconciliation.

VTV Special “Healing” produced by the Culture and Entertainment Department tells the story of two American filmmakers: Bob Judson - a veteran who fought in the Vietnam War in 1968 and Dan Aguar - who grew up after the war. They embarked on a journey of “awakening” when they witnessed the vitality, tolerance and spirit of the Vietnamese people.

VTV special “Journey to Reunification” produced by Vietnam Television Center in Ho Chi Minh City addresses the pain that is gradually being healed and depicts the journey to find reconciliation.

In addition, a series of documentaries with profound content were also introduced, such as: "Voice of Conscience" (Foreign Television Department) depicting the life of anti-war prisoner Eugene Wilber, a pilot and commanding officer who was shot down in Vietnam in 1969; "The Call" (Ethnic Television Department) telling the story of peace-loving people around the world who participated in protesting the Vietnam War through music; the series of documentaries "I was born in 1975", "Saigon - The Day of Victory", "Half a Century - A Dream", "Secret Mission", "Before the Hour of Total Victory"... giving the audience a multi-dimensional, humane view of a historical period that changed the fate of the nation.

On this occasion, Vietnam Television also introduced 5 episodes of the documentary "Aspiration for Peace" produced by the Central Scientific Documentary Film Studio, vividly recreating the heroic history of the resilient Southern land throughout the struggle against foreign invaders and to protect the Fatherland.

Contributing to creating a unique and distinctive mark of Vietnam Television on the occasion of commemorating important events of the country are special programs that combine ideological-political depth with subtle artistic emotions, which are meticulously and methodically produced and increasingly upgraded in scale.

A typical example is the TV bridge “Vang mai khuc khai trien” (Live broadcast at 8:10 p.m. on April 27 on VTV1). The program is an artistic epic performed at the following locations: Thong Nhat Park (Hanoi), Hien Luong Flag Tower, Hien Luong-Ben Hai National Special Relic Site (Quang Tri) and Saigon River Park, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City).

Besides, the art program "The Country is Full of Joy" (Live broadcast at 8:10 p.m. on April 20 on VTV1) brings together more than 1,000 artists and soldiers, with 22 music and dance works with content related to historical periods of the Vietnamese nation, honoring the achievements of our ancestors, arousing national pride and the desire for peace.

The program “Linking Hands” will be broadcast live at 8:00 p.m. on April 26 on VTV Can Tho channel, produced by the Vietnam Television Center in the Southwest region, highlighting the great victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, opening a period of independence, unification and development of the country.

Along with that, VTV sent to the audience many meaningful and humane art exchange programs such as "Song of Unification" (broadcast on April 26 on VTV1), bringing immortal works, taking the audience back to a journey of loss, pain, but full of glory and pride of the country; "Time, Tell the Story" (broadcast on April 27 on VTV3), creating a colorful cultural picture, honoring the Vietnam People's Army and living witnesses of history; "Spring of Unification" (broadcast live at 8:10 p.m. on April 29 on VTV1) with the participation of 1,000 artists, artist groups, orchestras, choirs, dancers..., bringing songs that have entered the hearts of generations of music lovers for more than half a century.

To reach a wide audience, Vietnam Television has also promoted many communication campaigns on VTV's digital platforms with diverse and flexible content, suitable for the tastes and reception habits of young audiences. Accordingly, the communication campaign "Joining hands" was deployed by the Center for Digital Content Production and Development (VTV Digital) with a series of short video clips, information graphics, livestreams, multimedia articles... vividly and attractively recreating the 50-year journey of national unification and development.

Fanpage VTV24, VTV1, VTVgo, VTV Times will continuously update news, video clips, behind-the-scenes, short reports and reader interactions. Along with that is a series of minigames, video interactions and a series of short clips 50 years - 50 stories on social networks, targeting young people; and activities to release music playlists to celebrate April 30 on VTV's YouTube and Spotify platforms; a system of trailers, teasers, infographics, and podcasts with a strong modern journalism style will be released simultaneously from mid-March 2025 until the end of the holiday.

In addition, there is also the Digital Campaign “Love Vietnam” (implemented by the Culture and Entertainment Department) bringing a digital creative space for all Vietnamese people; The Campaign “Love Vietnam” carries the spirit of blending tradition and modernity, demonstrating the continuity between generations in the journey of preserving and developing the country today.
