Join hands to eliminate temporary houses and build loving homes

Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is not only a major policy of the Party and the State but also a persistent and silent journey of many volunteer organizations and individuals. In Thai Nguyen, solid houses built from compassion not only help the poor realize their dream of "settling down and having a career" but are also a symbol of warm human affection in everyday life.

Building a house to “settle down” is difficult for many people, but for poor households, it is sometimes a lifelong dream that cannot be achieved. Therefore, each house of love given not only has material value, but is also a great source of encouragement, helping the poor overcome adversity and gradually stabilize their lives.

For many years, Mr. Vu Van Mau, a poor household in Yen Trach commune (Phu Luong), and his two children have lived in a house thatched with palm leaves that has seriously deteriorated. His wife left him, and he has had to raise his children alone, while he himself suffers from heart valve disease, high blood pressure, and is often sick. The disaster has not stopped when his son had an accident, breaking his legs and arms, and has not yet fully recovered. “For many years, the whole family has relied on two fields of rice. Storm No. 3 last September caused the land behind the house to collapse, and trees fell on it, making the dilapidated house even more crooked.

After surveying his family situation, the volunteer group led by benefactors Mr. Vu Xuan Hong (Luong Son Ward, Song Cong City) and Ms. Phung Thi Thuong (Hoa Thuong Town, Dong Hy District) were deeply moved and determined to mobilize funds to build him a new house. The house is expected to have an area of 65m², with a total cost of about 150 million VND, and will be completed in June 2025.

Not only helping Mr. Mau's family, from 2023 to now, Mr. Hong and Ms. Thuong's volunteer group has connected to build 30 humanitarian houses for poor households in Phu Luong district. The group's way of doing things is sometimes based on the initial support from the Fatherland Front and the Red Cross (30-50%), then calling for socialization of the remaining part and directly organizing the construction and handover of houses, sometimes mobilizing support for 100% of the cost of building houses.

Since the beginning of 2025 alone, the group has started construction on 7 houses in Yen Trach and Hop Thanh communes. Each house is designed as a self-contained unit with two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom, with an average construction cost of about 130 million VND.

Mr. Hoang Van Dang, Vice Chairman of Yen Trach Commune People's Committee, shared: As the commune with the most temporary and dilapidated houses in the district, in the past 3 years, we have received a lot of support from charitable organizations, philanthropists, especially the volunteer group of Mr. Hong and Ms. Thuong. Up to now, the whole commune has more than 20 houses supported by them to build. If we only rely on the internal resources of families or the local budget, we do not know when people will have a decent roof."

Not far away, in Yen Thuy 4 hamlet, Yen Lac commune, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Bao and his wife also received a new house supported by the Nhat Thien Heart Club, the local government and organizations. Their old house was located deep in the forest, dilapidated, damp, and difficult to move around. With no means of production and an unstable income, they lived precariously in a thatched house for many years.

Mr. Bao was moved: “Now living in a 60m² house, built spaciously and beautifully, I really can’t believe my eyes. We are very grateful to the government and benefactors.” It is known that the total cost of the house is more than 120 million VND, of which the Nhat Thien Heart Club alone contributed nearly 60 million VND including cash, materials and labor.

Since its establishment, Nhat Thien Heart Club has supported the construction and repair of more than 10 houses of gratitude for poor households. Recently, club members visited and surveyed the circumstances of 3 families in Long Thanh hamlet, Binh Long commune (Vo Nhai). These are families living in extreme poverty, with serious illnesses, unable to work and unable to pay for the state's financial support.

Mr. Tong Dinh Son, Chairman of Nhat Thien Heart Club: "We continue to call on the community to join hands, because just a little more funding can help them have a roof over their heads, feel secure in their treatment, and live their last days more peacefully."

Accompanying the effort to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Thai Nguyen, many organizations, businesses and individuals have joined hands to support, typically: Father Do Cong Vien (Yen Lang Parish, Dai Tu); Ms. Do Thi Thu Hien (Chan Thuc Asia Co., Ltd., Hanoi); Ms. Pham Thuy Son (Chairman of Hong Ngoc Ha Travel Construction - Trade and Tourism Joint Stock Company); Thuan Luong Pagoda (Luong Son, Song Cong City); Mr. and Mrs. Truong Tuan - Dieu Lien currently living in Canada... Those silent contributions are lighting up hope for the poor every day.

According to statistics from the Thai Nguyen Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, by April 10, 2025, the whole province had 1,487/1,489 poor and near-poor households eligible for support that had completed new construction, house repairs or were under construction, reaching 99.26% of the plan to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province. In that result, there were significant contributions from organizations, teams, groups, and philanthropists inside and outside the province.

Supporting the removal of temporary and dilapidated houses not only improves people's living conditions but also symbolizes the spirit of solidarity and mutual love. It is a living proof that with unity and sharing, "no one will be left behind" in dilapidated houses.
