The preliminary results are compiled by the Secretariat, fully completed and sent to the members of the Final Jury early, creating better conditions for the Final Jury to research and evaluate the works.

Journalist Do Thi Thu Hang, member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Professional Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Permanent Vice President of the Preliminary Council, commented: “The entries to this year's Awards are not only numerous in quantity and diverse in topics, but also of good professional quality, gathering many large and small press agencies at both the central and local levels. The works all adhere to major themes, vividly reflecting important events of 2023 - 2024 in the fields of culture, sports, tourism and family”.

Some prominent topics that many groups of authors are interested in and exploit include: The issue of developing Vietnam's cultural industry in the new situation; The issue of protecting the Party's ideological foundation in the field of culture and arts; The current situation of Vietnam's sports and tourism industry in the post-Covid-19 period.

Topics on preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural heritage in general and the culture of 54 ethnic groups in particular; building the entertainment industry, film market, book market and reading culture; developing tourism, sports, building families, protecting children...; Digital transformation issues in the cultural field, good models, good practices in developing tourism, culture, sports... Family topics, about the tradition of studiousness with exemplary characters who live filial piety and loyalty to their parents; guiding readers to the true, good and beautiful values of life... are also of interest to and exploited by many authors and groups of authors.

“The articles delve into specific content analysis, highlighting the current situation, difficulties, opportunities and challenges in preserving and developing the fields of culture, sports and tourism,” said Ms. Do Thi Thu Hang.

The subcommittees of the Preliminary Council proposed and recommended that the Organizing Committee should take specific measures to encourage reporters and journalists to create more works on family, children and sports topics to balance the cultural field with other fields so that the Award fully and comprehensively reflects all fields of the industry.

According to the assessment of the Preliminary Council, the entries for the Award are not only numerous in quantity and diverse in topics, but also of good professional quality, gathering many large and small press agencies at both the central and local levels.

The works all adhere to major themes, vividly reflecting important events of 2023-2024 in the fields of culture, sports, tourism and family. Some prominent topics that many groups of authors are interested in and exploit include: The issue of developing Vietnam's cultural industry in the new situation. The issue of protecting the Party's ideological foundation in the field of culture and arts. The current situation of Vietnam's sports and tourism industry in the post-Covid-19 period.

The issue of preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural heritage in general and the culture of 54 ethnic groups in particular; building the entertainment industry, film market, book market and reading culture; developing tourism, sports, building families, protecting children... The issue of digital transformation in the cultural field, good models, good practices in developing tourism, culture, sports... Family topics, about the tradition of studiousness with exemplary characters who live filial piety and loyalty to their parents; guiding readers to the true, good and beautiful values of life... The articles delve into analyzing specific contents, highlighting the current situation, difficulties, opportunities and challenges in preserving and developing the fields of culture, sports and tourism.

For the Print category, this is the category with the largest number of entries. In 2024, the actual number of entries was 258, down 87 from 2023 (345 entries in 2023). About two-thirds of these were series of articles lasting 3-5 episodes. Some entries had additional reference appendices attached.

The entries come from many press agencies, not only focusing on the central press but also local press, ministerial and sectoral press (Ca Mau Newspaper, Bac Lieu Newspaper, Quang Ngai, Tay Ninh, Bac Ninh, Binh Phuoc...). Many press agencies simultaneously send many articles/series of articles to the contest such as Van Hoa, Nhan Dan, Cong An Nhan Dan, Quan Doi Nhan Dan, Ha Noi Moi...

In terms of advantages: compared to the first contest, the entries this time have many good articles, higher quality, and are invested very carefully such as: "Journey following the king's footsteps to bring back the royal decree" (An ninh Thu do newspaper), "Oath at the head of the waves" (Culture newspaper), "Country on the "wings" of soft power" (Nhan Dan weekend newspaper), "Struggling to prevent the plot of "Peaceful evolution" in the cultural field in the current situation" (Culture and Arts magazine), "Telling the story of Vietnamese culture to the world" (Ho Chi Minh City Women's newspaper)... Culture newspaper has many good articles in many fields, with in-depth analysis, methodical, and good solutions.

Articles from different perspectives have proposed solutions and directions for responsible development of each field, both encouraging and motivating, and providing appropriate interpretations to the actual situation.

The Central Press dominated the major articles, highlighting issues of public concern related to the policy of developing culture, sports and tourism. As a result, the Subcommittee selected 16 works of the Central Press for the final round.

In addition to the press of the two big cities, local press also had many good works participating such as articles from Bac Ninh, Tay Ninh, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu newspapers... As a result, the Subcommittee selected 11 works of local press for the final round.

Regarding limitations, there are still some works of low quality, some entries are just normal reflections. Some works are too long, stating the current situation from reports or seminars, lacking practical solutions, or just citing recommendations from reports of professional agencies, lacking the labor of journalists.

Besides, most of the works focus on some main areas such as cultural industry, relic conservation, heritage, tourism... some other areas such as history, family, children, sports... have few works, the quality is not really high.

In addition, many localities in the central provinces have not yet paid attention to submitting entries to the contest.

For the Electronic Newspaper category, the Electronic Newspaper category has the second largest number of entries after the Print Newspaper. Although the number of entries in 2024 decreased by about 60 entries compared to 2023, compared to the number of other ministerial and sectoral awards and within the scope of electronic newspapers, this is still a fairly large number, proving that the National Press Award for the Development of Culture, Sports and Tourism continues to receive the attention of journalists and reporters.

In terms of advantages, central press agencies continue to have strengths in in-depth, multimedia series and works. Some press agencies sent many works such as: Vietnam News Agency, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Culture Newspaper, Dan Tri Newspaper, Political Theory Magazine, Business Forum Magazine, Health and Community Magazine, etc. Some central press agencies sent a lower number of works compared to last year, but the quality was invested in more carefully.

The Central Press dominated the major articles, highlighting issues of public concern related to the policy of developing culture, sports and tourism. This year, the participation of many magazines demonstrated the spread of the Award, its comprehensiveness and theoretical nature on issues of culture, sports, tourism, family, etc. The participation of many magazines brought richness and diversity to the entries. As a result, the Subcommittee selected 16 works of the Central Press for the final round.

This year's local press works are of quite high quality. Some local press agencies such as Tuyen Quang Newspaper, Ha Tinh Newspaper... are units with many entries and good quality. Local electronic press has invested carefully, presented attractive content, and knows how to raise and solve problems. As a result, the Subcommittee selected 10 local press works for the final round.

The works selected for the final round are mostly presented in the form of multimedia Mega Story, E-magazine with images, video clips, podcasts, data graphics... presented vividly, eye-catching, taking advantage of the advantages of electronic newspapers. Major press agencies such as: Vietnam News Agency, Nhan Dan Newspaper, People's Army Newspaper, Dan Tri Electronic Newspaper... have invested in elaborate, in-depth series of articles, many series of articles in foreign languages have contributed to communicating to international readers about the policies of the Party and State on culture, sports, tourism, family; the rich development of these fields meets the increasingly diverse needs of people in the integration period; profound content, professional presentation.

Regarding limitations, works on the theme of "Family" are very few, appearing only sporadically among the total of more than 230 electronic works entered in the contest.

In addition to major press agencies and some local newspapers that are interested in investing in large, elaborate works from theme, topic, to content, there are still some works of limited quality (especially local press). Among them, many works are almost only text and photos, with almost no multimedia editing.

There are still many localities (mainly the Central provinces) that are not interested in submitting entries in this category.

For the Radio – Television category, the number of entries in the Radio – Television category this year is higher than the first year. This is a fairly large number compared to other specialized journalism awards.

Some central press agencies submitted good quality works such as Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Military Broadcasting Center, People's Television Channel, National Assembly Television Channel, Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio. Some local stations had quite good and consistent quality works such as: Dong Nai, Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Dong Thap, Phu Tho, Binh Phuoc, Lao Cai... In addition to the units that are provincial-level radio and television stations, some newspapers, district-level Culture, Sports and Communication Centers also participated in the contest. In terms of advantages, in general, the works submitted to the contest have quite good content. Selected for the final round are works that closely follow the breath of life, especially highlighting the position, role, and achievements of the development of culture, sports, tourism and family in the country's development process.

Highly appreciated works focus on topics of public interest such as developing cultural industries, developing sustainable tourism, preserving and conserving writing; good and creative ways to preserve and promote the quintessence and unique traditional cultural heritage of the nation. Tradition, cultural beauty, tourism, and sports movements of regions are also topics that many works mention in a profound and attractive way.

Notably, there are many examples of dedication and wholehearted contribution to the cause of preserving national culture and art, which are vividly and convincingly reflected in many works through stories and specific actions. Among the works selected for the final round, the strengths of the central press units are political topics and issues of general scope. Meanwhile, the local press is strong in reflective articles, new and unique ways of doing things at the grassroots level, especially on mass culture, sports and tourism.

Television works that are well-rated by the judges are those that attract the audience's attention, create good propaganda effects, have creative and novel content in discovering topics, attractive and convincing storytelling, and most importantly, are skillful in using typical television elements such as images, commentary, and sound.

Many radio works are invested in elaborately, professionally performed in sound processing, noise and commentary. Many works on the topic of national cultural heritage, regional cultural heritage, especially music, painting, tourism are attractive and appealing to radio listeners. Regarding the disadvantages, the number of works is large but the number of participating units is not much, only concentrated in some large press agencies in the Central, especially for radio. There are still many provincial radio and television stations, including in large cities and provinces, that have not submitted works to the contest. Notably, some units are not selective, sending entries indiscriminately, but the quality is not high.

The quality of the works is not uniform, there is a big difference between the works submitted and between the units. The general level of the works submitted is average. There are very few works on family topics in both television and radio.

For the category of Press Photo, this year the number of photo works is still not much. The number of press photo works in localities and provinces and cities this year is higher, not only the Northern provinces but also the Central and Southern regions sent works to participate, although the number of works participating is not as high as the Northern region. In the photo works on culture, sports and tourism, the number of photo works on the cultural field is greater, while the number of photos on sports and tourism is still small. In the field of culture, sports and tourism, there is a great need for typical units, typical people, and there are very few typical portraits. In sports, they appear more but only in a few outstanding athletes. Meanwhile, in mass sports, those who do training, coaching, and build sports movements are rarely seen, only appearing on the surface, rarely exploited, and delved into the content.

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen communication about the award content to press agencies and journalists' associations at all levels, especially in the Central Highlands - Central region, to encourage submission of entries for the following seasons.

According to Journalist Le Quoc Minh, Chairman of the Final Jury: “The National Press Award “For the cause of developing culture, sports and tourism” is a driving force for press agencies to pay more attention to investing in this field. Since the previous award, the awareness of press agencies from the central to local levels has paid more attention to spending more time, which is shown through the participation of authors and groups of authors in this second award with a large number of over 900 works. Besides the large number, we also see that the cultural theme is also very diverse in many fields, the fields of the state directing ideological work, orienting the development of the cultural sector in general, many issues are mentioned such as traditional culture, contemporary culture, mentioned from micro to macro issues.

There are many works of good people, good deeds, the beauty of families and communities, from outstanding units and individuals, which are also highlights of this year's awards. We hope that press agencies will have more diverse ways of expression. It is not necessary for us to talk directly about cultural issues. We can expand to economic issues, incorporating cultural elements very effectively. Not to mention our wish that the articles need to follow the direction of solution journalism, providing solutions for development in the high-tech era, which cannot be done in the traditional way before, through experts contributing solutions so that the cultural industry can refer to them for effective development in the future.

After voting, the Final Jury will agree to award prizes in the following categories: Print, Electronic, Radio, Television, and Photojournalism. In addition, the Collective Prize will be awarded to 3 press agencies with many works participating in the Prize, achieving high results.

The results of the Final Round will be announced at the Second National Press Awards Ceremony "For the Development of Culture, Sports and Tourism", taking place on the evening of August 28, 2024, at the Hanoi Opera House.
