On the morning of August 3rd, immediately following the Central Committee meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam chaired a press conference to announce the results of the meeting.
At the press conference, the General Secretary answered four questions from the press regarding his feelings after being elected General Secretary by the 13th Central Committee of the Party; the fight against corruption and negative phenomena in the coming period; priorities for action in his new position; and Vietnam's diplomatic direction.
Nothing is better than unity and solidarity.
Responding to the press about his feelings on this important event, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his deep emotion and sincere gratitude for the affection of comrades, compatriots, and international friends.
General Secretary and President To Lam shared that being elected by the Central Committee to the position of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party is a great responsibility before the Party, the people, and the country; it represents the trust and expectations of cadres, Party members, and the people in the strong development of the country in the coming time.

According to the General Secretary, although we have completed two-thirds of the tasks outlined in the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, the tasks ahead are still numerous and complex, requiring extraordinary efforts, national unity, and concerted efforts from the entire Party, army, and people to successfully achieve the set goals and objectives.
"Perhaps nothing compares to unity and solidarity. Unity and solidarity are our strength. I am very pleased that the unity and solidarity within the Party, the Politburo, and the Central Committee have spread, continued to be promoted, and fostered positively," the General Secretary emphasized.
This is the strength of our Party and nation; we can overcome many difficulties and challenges, and achieve the victories and goals set by our Party.
"Certainly, the future development of our country will be bright following the path that our Party has charted," the General Secretary confidently stated.
The fight against corruption is "unrelenting and relentless."
Answering a question regarding the fight against corruption and negative practices in the coming period, the General Secretary affirmed that "the work of Party building and rectification, and the fight against corruption and negative practices will continue to be strongly implemented with the same goals, viewpoints, principles, tasks, and solutions as in the past."
In that context, the General Secretary emphasized the need to intensify the fight against corruption and negative practices according to the motto "continuously, without rest, without forbidden areas, without exceptions, regardless of who the person is"; and "handling one case serves as a warning to the entire region and sector."
In addition, the focus should be on preventing and combating corruption and negative practices, primarily within anti-corruption agencies, pushing back petty corruption, expanding anti-corruption efforts to the non-state sector, and contributing to the purification of the Party's internal affairs.
"It must be said that the recent anti-corruption efforts have garnered the support and approval of Party members, the people, and international public opinion; and have built trust among the people in the Party and its members. I also said that while there are some doubts in certain areas regarding the fight against corruption, there is clearly a very high level of consensus," the General Secretary shared.
He further informed that recently, the Central Committee has placed its trust and confidence in the direction of combating corruption and negative practices, and has united in its implementation. As a result, the prestige and trust of leaders and agencies have been greatly strengthened. Therefore, the fight against corruption must continue to be carried out decisively and thoroughly, in order to defeat this "internal enemy."
Besides combating corruption, the General Secretary stated that it is necessary to continue reforming administrative procedures and promoting the removal of institutional and regulatory obstacles in order to create a new momentum and space for socio-economic development.
The General Secretary expressed that he felt fortunate to have served as both Minister of Public Security and Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, directly participating in and directing this work.
"Now, with the trust of the Party and the confidence of the people, I have been elected as the General Secretary of the Party, and simultaneously entrusted with the important responsibility of leading the Central Steering Committee on combating corruption and negative phenomena. I believe this work will continue to be successful," the General Secretary said.
He expressed his hope for the agreement and support of the entire political system, especially the oversight of the people. According to the General Secretary, success is guaranteed with the people's agreement and support for this work.
Accelerate the implementation of the targets set by the 13th Party Congress.
Responding to questions about his priorities after assuming the position of General Secretary, Mr. To Lam said that, in the immediate future, he will review and reassess the targets set by the 13th Party Congress to find breakthrough solutions, make rapid progress, and accelerate the achievement of the goals.
"We only have a little over a year left, so the requirement to accelerate the implementation of the targets set by the 13th Party Congress, in order to reach the finish line early, is a top priority," the General Secretary said.
The second priority, as stated by the General Secretary, is the preparation for the 14th National Congress of the Party. Time is running out, but there is much work to be done, and the subcommittees must actively prepare to finalize the documents for the party congresses at all levels, leading up to the 14th National Congress of the Party.
Emphasizing the need for thorough preparation in terms of personnel planning, the General Secretary stated: "We must have a good apparatus and a good team of cadres to achieve the goals and expectations of the people. That is also a task that requires focused attention," the General Secretary replied.
Implementing effective diplomacy in the new era.
Regarding the question of Vietnam's future foreign policy, the General Secretary affirmed that the Party's general guidelines, especially the resolutions of the 13th National Congress, including its foreign policy guidelines, remain unchanged.
“We are continuing to implement this policy very well. We are very pleased to receive high praise from the international community. Recently, in my capacity as President, I received a number of international delegates. The reason we have a well-implemented foreign policy, enhancing Vietnam's prestige and standing in the international arena, is thanks to the lessons learned from practice,” the General Secretary shared.
According to the General Secretary, in foreign relations, it is necessary to uphold the principles of independence and self-reliance, with national interests being paramount; Vietnam should be a friend to all countries in the world.
The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam has had a very successful foreign policy, demonstrating international responsibility, responsibility towards world politics, global issues and human civilization; participating in world peace, and jointly resolving conflicts with a peace-loving policy.
The General Secretary stated that Vietnam's foreign policy priorities in the coming period will continue to strengthen relations with neighboring countries, comprehensive strategic partners, strategic partners, and traditional friends, constantly consolidating political trust, intertwining interests, and pursuing peaceful diplomacy and the highest level of cooperation for development.
At the same time, we will strengthen Vietnam's contribution to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world, continue to elevate multilateral diplomacy, and promote its role as a responsible nation.
"Vietnam continues to effectively implement modern diplomacy based on the core values of the Vietnamese people and the nation throughout history: adapting to changing circumstances while remaining steadfast, practicing harmony and benevolence, and replacing tyranny with humanity," the General Secretary shared.
