On the morning of August 3, right after the Central Executive Committee Conference, General Secretary and President To Lam chaired a press conference to announce the conference results.
At the press conference, the General Secretary answered four questions from the press about his feelings after being elected General Secretary by the 13th Party Central Committee; the work of preventing corruption and negativity in the coming time; priorities for action in his new position and Vietnam's diplomatic direction.
There is nothing like unity
Responding to the press about his feelings on this important event, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his deep emotion and sincere gratitude for the sentiments of comrades, compatriots, and international friends.
General Secretary and President To Lam shared that being elected by the Central Committee to hold the position of General Secretary of the Party Central Committee is a great responsibility before the Party, the people, and the country; it is the trust and expectation of cadres, party members, and people in the strong development of the country in the coming time.

According to the General Secretary, although we have completed two-thirds of the journey to implement the tasks of the 13th Party Congress Resolution, the tasks in the coming time are still very complicated, requiring great efforts, national solidarity, and unity within the entire Party, army, and people to successfully implement the set goals and tasks.
“Perhaps there is nothing like solidarity and unity. Solidarity and unity are our strength. We are very happy that the solidarity and unity within the Party, the Politburo, and the Central Executive Committee have been spread, continued to be promoted, and aroused well,” the General Secretary emphasized.
This is the strength of our Party and nation, which can overcome many difficulties and challenges and achieve victory and the goals set by our Party.
"Certainly, the future of our country's development will be bright following the path our Party has outlined," the General Secretary believes.
Anti-corruption "relentless, non-stop"
Answering questions related to the work of preventing corruption and negativity in the coming time, the General Secretary affirmed that "the work of Party building and rectification, preventing corruption and negativity will continue to be strongly implemented with the same goals, viewpoints, mottos, tasks and solutions as in the past time".
In particular, the General Secretary emphasized the need to step up the fight against corruption and negativity according to the motto "non-stop, non-stop, no forbidden zones, no exceptions, no matter who the person is"; "handling one case is a wake-up call for the whole region and the whole field".
Besides, it is necessary to focus on preventing and fighting corruption and negativity, first of all in anti-corruption agencies, pushing back petty corruption, expanding anti-corruption in the non-state sector, contributing to cleaning up the Party internally.
“It must be said that the recent anti-corruption work has created consensus and support from Party members, the people, and international public opinion; and created people's trust in the Party and Party members. I also said that the anti-corruption work here and there has been doubt, but clearly there is a very high level of consensus,” the General Secretary shared.
He added that recently, the Central Committee has trusted and believed in the direction of preventing corruption and negativity and has united to implement it. Since then, the prestige and trust of leaders and agencies have been greatly strengthened. Therefore, the work of preventing corruption must continue to be carried out resolutely and thoroughly, in order to defeat the "internal invaders".
Besides preventing and fighting corruption, the General Secretary said that it is necessary to continue reforming administrative procedures, promoting the removal of difficulties in institutions and regulations to create a new atmosphere and space for socio-economic development.
The General Secretary expressed that he was personally fortunate that while serving as Minister of Public Security, he was also Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, directly participating in directing this work.
“Now, with the trust of the Party and the people, I have been elected as the General Secretary of the Party, and at the same time assigned the important responsibility of being the Head of the Central Steering Committee on anti-corruption and negativity. I believe that this work will continue to develop,” said the General Secretary.
He hopes to receive the consensus and support of the entire political system, especially the supervision of the people. According to the General Secretary, with the consensus and support of the people for this work, it will be successful.
Accelerating the implementation of the targets set by the 13th Party Congress
Responding to questions about priorities after taking office as General Secretary, Mr. To Lam said that in the immediate future, he will review and re-evaluate the targets set by the 13th Congress to find breakthrough solutions, make quick moves, and accelerate the implementation of the goals.
“We only have a little over a year left, so the requirement to accelerate the implementation of the targets set by the 13th Party Congress, to reach the finish line early, is an important priority,” said the General Secretary.
The second priority, as announced by the General Secretary, is the preparation for the 14th National Party Congress. Time is running out, but there is a lot of work to be done. Subcommittees must actively prepare to complete documents to serve the Party Congresses at all levels, leading up to the 14th National Party Congress.
Emphasizing the need to prepare well for personnel plans, the General Secretary said: “We must have a good apparatus and a good team of cadres to fulfill the goals and expectations of the people. That is also the work that needs to be focused on,” the General Secretary replied.
Effective implementation of new-age diplomacy
Regarding the question of Vietnam's future foreign policy, the General Secretary affirmed that the Party's general guidelines, especially the 13th Congress resolution, including foreign policy, will not change.
“We are continuing to implement this policy well. We are very pleased to receive international appreciation. Recently, as President, I received a number of international delegates. The reason why we have a well-implemented foreign policy, enhancing Vietnam's prestige and position in the international arena, is thanks to the experiences drawn from practice,” the General Secretary shared.
According to the General Secretary, in foreign affairs, we must maintain the viewpoint of independence, self-reliance, and national interests above all; Vietnam is friends with countries around the world.
The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam has had a very successful foreign policy, demonstrating international responsibility, being responsible for world politics, global issues and human civilization; participating in world peace, and resolving conflicts with a peace-loving policy.
The General Secretary said that Vietnam's foreign policy priorities in the coming time will continue to promote relations with neighboring countries, comprehensive strategic partners, strategic partners, and traditional friends, constantly consolidate political trust, intertwine interests, and pursue peaceful diplomacy and the highest cooperation for development.
At the same time, enhance Vietnam's contribution to maintaining regional and world peace and stability, continue to elevate multilateral diplomacy, and promote its role as a responsible nation.
“Vietnam continues to effectively implement new-age diplomacy based on the character of the Vietnamese people and the nation for thousands of years: being steadfast in responding to change, being peaceful, and using benevolence to replace violence,” the General Secretary shared.
