Accordingly, the inauguration ceremony of the above project will be held on April 19, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. The location is in Cu Yang commune, Ea Kar district, Dak Lak province.

According to the report of the Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 8 (Board 8), in May 2009, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) approved the Krong Pach Thuong reservoir project, phase 1. The total investment is nearly 3,000 billion VND, of which the construction cost is more than 1,900 billion VND, site clearance and resettlement is more than 180 billion VND... the implementation period is 5 years. This project has two works. Of which, the Krong Pach Thuong reservoir is the main work, while the Ea Rot reservoir serves resettlement.
In June 2010, the Ea Rot reservoir project was started and put into use in 2016. The project has effectively promoted the investment in providing irrigation water for 2,150 hectares of cultivated land in Cu Ea Lang and Ea O communes of Ea Kar District.
The Krong Pach Thuong reservoir headworks project started in March 2016 and will be completed in December 2023. The project is large-scale, with a cluster of headworks including three dams, two spillways, and a large-scale water intake culvert with complex techniques. The irrigation canal system is large-scale, including a water supply pipeline with the largest diameter of 1.6m and a length of 13.4km. To build the project, the land area to be recovered is up to 3,174ha and about 800 households must be relocated.

Of which, the Krong Pach Thuong lake project has 725 households, the Ea Rot lake project has 76 households. In 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development decided to adjust the Krong Pach Thuong lake project. In which, the total investment of the project increased to more than 4,400 billion VND (phase 1), of which the construction component is more than 2,000 billion VND. The cost of site clearance, resettlement, and replacement forestation alone increased to nearly 1,900 billion VND.
Board 8 was assigned to be the investor of the main canal and headworks cluster, the North main canal, and the South main canal of Krong Pach Thuong Lake. Construction of the main canal and level 1 canal with an area of 150ha of Ea Rot Lake; survey, design the entire project and other related expenses. At the same time, it manages more than 2,200 billion VND. The Dak Lak Provincial Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Projects and Rural Development is the investor of the compensation, support, and resettlement component; the construction of the level 1 canal system down to Krong Pach Thuong Lake. At the same time, this board manages more than 2,200 billion VND. Board 8 also assessed that, although it has not been officially handed over to the management unit for use, up to now, the project has been effective in reducing floods, improving the ecological environment, irrigating, and creating sources for over 8,000ha.

The project also improves the ecological environment, providing water for the daily life of 73,000 people, livestock and other water-using industries in need. The project also facilitates transportation, agricultural product transportation, and economic development. It creates a tourist landscape, contributes to the development of eco-tourism, generates revenue for the locality, and attracts visitors to experience and immerse themselves in nature.
During the construction process, the project encountered many difficulties such as unfavorable weather, the impact of tropical depressions, storms causing prolonged rain, high material prices; especially the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. The Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Project Phase 2 will invest in the construction and completion of the remaining irrigation canal system to effectively exploit water resources and works of the Krong Pach Thuong Project Phase 1. Thereby, providing irrigation water for more than 12,700 hectares of cultivated land, creating a water source for daily life and livestock farming. The total investment is more than 1,100 billion VND. The project started construction in July 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
