Phu Tho is one of the provinces with a fairly large forest area. Determining that forests are not only a "natural shield" protecting people from natural disasters but also a source of livelihood for the people, in recent years, Party committees and authorities at all levels have paid attention to care, development and achieved positive and sustainable results.
Forest rangers propagate and mobilize people in Tat Thang commune, Thanh Son district to convert large timber plantations to create high economic value.
Every year, localities and units in the province, especially localities with large forest areas, regularly propagate in many diverse and rich forms, and at the same time open training courses to raise awareness of forest care and protection for people, especially people living near forests and ethnic minorities to understand and participate in forest protection and development. Therefore, the province's forest area has been effectively protected and developed. Up to now, the forest coverage rate in the province has reached nearly 40%.
As a locality with a large forestry area, in recent years, Yen Lap district has had many solutions to turn the hill forest economy into a key economic sector bringing high economic efficiency. Up to now, the district has converted more than 200 hectares of large timber forests. To ensure the conversion of large timber forests, as well as the annual forest planting target, the District People's Committee has developed a specific plan assigned to the Forest Protection Department and specialized departments to closely coordinate with the communes in the area to do a good job of propaganda and instructing people to care for and protect the forest so that the trees can grow well and form large timber forests.
Comrade Nguyen Van Son - Head of Yen Lap District Forest Protection Department said: The whole district has a total forest area and land planned for forest development of over 30,000 hectares, of which more than 329 hectares are special-use forests, more than 8,600 hectares are protective forests, more than 17,900 hectares are production forests, the rest are outside the planning of 3 types of forests. People in the district mainly plant acacia and cinnamon forests. Identifying poverty reduction as one of the key tasks, in which the goal of poverty reduction associated with the development of the forest hill economy, focusing on large timber trees and medicinal plants is considered a feasible solution, the district government has created all conditions to support people in developing the forest hill economy, promoting the role of internal strength and self-improvement to escape poverty of the people. Most localities in the district focus on developing large timber forests.
Not only Yen Lap district, districts with large forestry land areas such as Thanh Son, Tan Son, Doan Hung, Ha Hoa have also focused on promoting the development of production forests in the direction of new planting, converting large timber forests, expanding the area certified for sustainable forests... contributing to improving production efficiency, productivity, quality and value of planted forests, the annual targets on forest protection and development have all met and exceeded the set plan.
Every year, the province plants nearly 10,000 hectares of concentrated forests; plants more than 2 million scattered trees; and cares for nearly 30,000 hectares of planted forests. The output of timber exploitation from planted forests and scattered trees in the province reaches nearly 800,000m3. The management and planning of three types of forests are focused on, ensuring compliance with current law provisions, thereby protecting the forest area in the province, exploiting and using it effectively and developing it sustainably, maximizing the potential and advantages of forestry in the province. Forest protection, fire prevention and fighting are strengthened; violations of the law on forest management, protection and development are reduced in both the number of violations and the level of damage; gradually exploiting and promoting the value of forests associated with the development of ecotourism, providing forest environmental services, ensuring sustainable development.
In the coming time, the province will continue to pay attention to and synchronously implement solutions for forest development and planting. Along with propaganda and education, authorities at all levels will create all favorable conditions for people to develop the forest economy; gradually implement the goal of linking forest protection, development, and planting with ensuring the ecological environment, increasing forest coverage, and combating climate change; linking the task of forest protection and planting with the task of socio-economic development, improving the lives of ethnic minorities in the whole province.
