Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee invites US businesses to invest in green growth and high technology

On November 16 (local time), in San Francisco (USA), within the framework of the President's working trip to attend the APEC 2023 Conference, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai met with nearly 30 large US enterprises in the fields of energy, infrastructure, high technology, information technology, finance, and innovation.

At the meeting, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that the city always identifies its pioneering role and mission in implementing specific cooperation contents between Vietnam and the United States, focusing on developing high technology, semiconductor chips, digital economy, and green economy.

Informing US investors about the green growth and sustainable development strategy of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Phan Van Mai shared that the city has completed the green growth strategy framework until 2030, with a vision to 2050, identifying people and businesses as the center of transformation.

Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City focuses on developing green resources, green infrastructure, green behavior and priority sectors and fields such as high-tech manufacturing, green startups - innovation, green tourism, green food, and green Can Gio. Ho Chi Minh City calls for investment in developing clean energy, green transportation, wastewater and waste treatment, developing carbon credits and building green Can Gio. The city also wants to access green credit sources and develop green finance. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City focuses on building plans with specific progress and designing policies and standards for socio-economic development in the city.

Mr. David Lewis, President and CEO of Energy Capital Vietnam, pledged to invest in the fields of innovation and green energy in Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time. Meanwhile, Mr. Patrick Sweeney, Vice President of the Business Council for National Security (BENS), also informed that many BENS member enterprises are eager to invest in Ho Chi Minh City in the fields of technology, aerospace, defense, finance, healthcare, energy, etc.

On the same afternoon, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held the "Conference on Investment Promotion in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023". Mr. Marc Knapper, US Ambassador to Vietnam, highlighted the advantages in the investment environment of Ho Chi Minh City, hoping that US businesses would invest more strongly in Ho Chi Minh City. At the Conference, there was also a ceremony to hand over 4 Memorandums of Understanding and 2 letters of interest between organizations and businesses to promote green growth and high-tech projects.

Previously, at the "Roundtable Discussion Connecting Vietnamese and US Businesses and Localities" organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment on the afternoon of November 15, Ho Chi Minh City departments and branches signed 3 Memorandums of Understanding with the Green Alliance. Specifically, cooperation in organizing investment and business activities towards green growth to sustainable development in Ho Chi Minh City; cooperation in investing in building a private sector innovation center in Ho Chi Minh City and investment cooperation in applying artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of transportation.
