At the meeting, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong gave an overview of Lao Cai province, its potentials and comparative advantages for socio-economic development, including advantages in border gate economic development; potential for industrial development; potential for agricultural and forestry development; and potential for tourism development.

The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee also informed about the province's socio-economic situation in 2023; trade activities; cooperation situation between Lao Cai province and Japanese partners; major orientations for Lao Cai's socio-economic development in the coming time.

The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee said that although the potential is great, it has not been exploited commensurate with the strengths of both sides. Currently, in Lao Cai, there are only JICA and some Japanese non-governmental organizations investing in Lao Cai on a small scale. Therefore, Lao Cai province hopes that through JETRO's connection, Japanese investors will know and invest in Lao Cai.

The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee requested investors to research and invest in the production and processing of products from cinnamon, bananas, and tea in Lao Cai for export to Japan.

Lao Cai's mineral potential is huge, this is an opportunity for Japanese enterprises to cooperate in investing in exploiting and processing mineral products (copper, iron, granite).

Regarding tourism, Lao Cai has many unique tourism products, especially four-season tourism. Therefore, Lao Cai wishes to connect Lao Cai tourism with Japanese tourists, and at the same time attract many Japanese investors to research and invest in tourism products in Lao Cai, such as resort tourism, resort tourism combined with health care using medicinal products of Lao Cai.

Regarding trade, Lao Cai province hopes that Japanese investors will invest in commercial centers, supermarkets, and supermarket chains in Lao Cai, because currently, Lao Cai's per capita income is growing well, spending is increasing by an average of 20% per year, and tourists' shopping needs when coming to Lao Cai are increasing.

We hope that JETRO Tokyo, JETRO Ho Chi Minh City and JETRO Hanoi will choose Lao Cai as the venue for events, because Lao Cai fully meets the conditions and has organized many important international conferences.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nakazawa Katsunori, Executive Vice President of the Japan External Trade Organization, shared: The first question in my mind was where is Lao Cai? Being introduced by the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, my first impression was that Lao Cai is very attractive, very beautiful and has a lot of potential and advantages.

JETRO Executive Vice President said: Currently, there are many Japanese enterprises operating in Vietnam in a number of fields. Therefore, JETRO has the task of conducting surveys in Vietnam to provide information for Japanese investors to research and seek investment opportunities, especially in the field of trade.

"This is the first time I have received information from Lao Cai and I am very impressed. Therefore, I also feel and think about how to bring this information to Japanese investors," the Executive Vice President of JETRO emphasized.

JETRO has offices in 47 provinces and cities in Japan, providing support through the JETRO system domestically and internationally, including Vietnam. Through its representative office in Vietnam, JETRO is ready to support information and introduce investors to Lao Cai and potential investment cooperation areas.

JETRO also agreed with the proposals of Lao Cai province at the meeting and will soon inform Japanese businesses and investors.
