National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue meets with Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Ferdinand Martin Romualdez

On the occasion of attending the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-44) in Jakarta (Indonesia), on the afternoon of August 6, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue met with Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives expressed their joy at meeting again and recalled the National Assembly Chairman's highly successful visit to the Philippines in 2022 as well as the Philippine House of Representatives' passing of a resolution welcoming the visit.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue highlighted the strong developments in all areas of the Vietnam-Philippines Strategic Partnership, especially high-level contacts.

The two leaders agreed to promote substantive development of bilateral relations, especially in the fields of economics , trade and investment, striving to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD.

In the context of the current complicated world situation, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that Vietnam and the Philippines need to cooperate to develop supply chains, facilitating the import of key Vietnamese goods, including rice, construction materials, as well as goods that the Philippines has potential for and Vietnam has demand for. The two sides need to strengthen cooperation in two important areas: digital transformation and energy transformation.

The two sides continued to promote cooperation between the two countries' parliaments, opening up new opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation; promoting delegation exchanges and cooperation between leaders and specialized agencies of the National Assembly; and exchanging experiences in parliamentary activities.

The two leaders also agreed to continue promoting cooperation and mutual support within the multilateral framework; supporting each other's initiatives at AIPA, further enhancing ASEAN's solidarity, strength and central role, and maintaining a common voice on regional security issues, including the East Sea issue.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue proposed that the Philippine Congress send a delegation to participate in the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians to be held in Hanoi. House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez confirmed that he will send a delegation to attend the conference.

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue respectfully invited the Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the Senate of the Philippines to visit Vietnam soon. Speaker of the House of Representatives Ferdinand Martin Romualdez happily accepted the invitation and affirmed that he will soon visit Vietnam.
