National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man: Vietnam and Armenia have a tradition of loving learning, valuing knowledge and education as the key to opening the future.

Yerevan State University is the oldest continuously operating public university in Armenia, founded in 1919. The university offers courses in Armenian, as well as programs taught in Russian or English for international students. In 2022, Yerevan State University was ranked among the top 1,000 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings.

The school has more than 23 research institutes and since its establishment, there have been about 100 Vietnamese students studying here.

Vietnam always considers education as the top national policy.

Speaking to the Board of Directors, professors, lecturers and a large number of students of the school, on behalf of the leaders of the Party, the State and the Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that Vietnam and Armenia, although geographically distant, always share sympathy and attachment due to the heroic history, long-standing culture and the resilient will to rise of the two peoples; the two countries have maintained a good, solid traditional friendship, mutual respect, political trust and the desire to cooperate for development for peace and prosperity.

In that journey, education and training have always played the role of a strong bridge, a source of nurturing friendship, sharing knowledge and opening up new horizons of cooperation. Affirming this, the National Assembly Chairman shared his impressions of the school's more than a century-long history. As the oldest continuously operating public university in Armenia, the school is not only the origin and foundation for many other higher education institutions but also the cradle of many generations of talents, excellent scientists, managers and cultural figures, making great contributions to the construction and protection of the beautiful Armenian Fatherland.

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the tireless efforts of generations of leaders, lecturers and students of the school, which have made the school proud of its achievements in teaching, research and innovation in recent years, demonstrating an education system that develops based on knowledge, tradition and international integration vision. The fact that the school attracts a large number of international students from many countries, including Vietnam, is a vivid manifestation of the school's attractiveness and quality.

In particular, “Yerevan State University is the place that has nurtured many outstanding leaders, politicians, diplomats, and scientists of Armenia. I understand that the current Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia is also an outstanding alumnus of the Faculty of Law of this prestigious school,” said the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Emphasizing the important and central role of education in the sustainable development of every country in the world, especially in the context of a volatile world with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, globalization and non-traditional security challenges as present, the National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam always considers "education as the top national policy", devoting special attention and important resources to the cause of human development. The Vietnamese education system, especially higher education, has made remarkable progress in recent years. Vietnam has been making efforts to fundamentally and comprehensively innovate education and training, improve the quality of human resources, promote scientific research and international integration.

Many major universities in Vietnam such as Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University... develop according to the research university model, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and are recognized in prestigious regional and international rankings. Vietnamese universities are increasingly proactive and actively participating in the global education network, collaborating in research and academic exchanges with international partners.

Promote exchanges and cooperation with leading universities in Vietnam

Looking back at the educational development journey of the two countries, the National Assembly Chairman was pleased to see valuable similarities. Both Vietnam and Armenia are nations with a tradition of studiousness, always valuing knowledge, morality and talent. Both nations have gone through challenging historical periods but have always maintained their will and aspiration to rise up, considering education as the key to unlocking the future. This similarity is a solid foundation for us to continue to cooperate more effectively in this important field.

In the new context, to deepen the cooperative relationship, substantively and effectively, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed that the two sides should further promote the exchange of students, lecturers and researchers between the school and leading universities in Vietnam such as Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University and other universities. “This is the best way for the young generations of the two countries to have the opportunity to experience and be a strong cultural and scientific bridge,” said the National Assembly Chairman.

The National Assembly Chairman also suggested that both sides encourage the development of joint scientific research programs and cooperation projects in areas of mutual interest and strength. Armenia is making strong progress in the fields of information technology, high technology, mathematics, physics, etc. These are also areas that Vietnam is prioritizing development and has many prestigious universities and research institutes.

Along with that, the two sides will increase sharing of experiences in university education management, quality assessment, and development of training programs according to international standards, meeting the requirements of the labor market in the digital age.

“You are the ones who will inherit and promote the glorious traditions of the nation, leading Armenia to move steadily forward on the path of development and integration. You are studying at a prestigious school, you have in your hands a golden opportunity to equip yourself with the most valuable baggage: Knowledge, Skills and Aspirations”. Telling this to Armenian students studying at the school, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man hopes that students will make the most of their precious time here to acquire professional knowledge, practice thinking and problem-solving skills. Especially, in the era of globalization, mastering foreign languages ​​and understanding other cultures will open wide doors to reach out to the world.

The National Assembly Chairman also hopes that Armenian students will be interested in learning more about the country and people of Vietnam, and about the good traditional friendship between our two countries. “You will be young ambassadors, important bridges contributing to fostering the Vietnam - Armenia friendship to become stronger and develop in the future,” the National Assembly Chairman affirmed.

Expressing his belief that Yerevan State University will develop more and more strongly, the National Assembly Chairman wished the teachers good health, happiness and enthusiasm in their noble career of educating people; wished Armenian and international students, including Vietnamese students, to achieve excellent results in their studies and training, and soon become excellent citizens, contributing to the development of their country and the world.
