Can Tho University promotes the establishment of branches in Hau Giang and Soc Trang
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong - Chairman of the University Council - reported on the educational and training activities of Can Tho University, emphasizing that 2026 will mark an important milestone of the 60th anniversary of the school's establishment. The school operates in many fields and disciplines; the key tasks are: teaching, learning, scientific research and serving the community.
The school has more than 1,900 staff, more than 1,100 lecturers, 58% of whom have a doctorate degree (among the universities with a high rate). The team of professors and associate professors in the teaching staff has the highest rate in the country. The school trains about 120 undergraduate majors (including many majors taught in English); has 51 graduate majors (including 2 majors taught internationally), especially aquaculture with a large number of students from Africa; 21 doctoral training programs.
The current training scale of Can Tho University is 35,000 undergraduate students, more than 2,000 masters, and about 200 doctors. According to the orientation in the training network planning of the Ministry of Education and Training, the scale of Can Tho University is 60,000 students.
Can Tho University has strengths in international cooperation, especially the comprehensive cooperation model with Japan.
In the future development orientation, the school has submitted a project to operate under the model of Can Tho University; is promoting the establishment of branches in Hau Giang and Soc Trang to expand the training scale.
Can Tho University is aiming for a smart university model, ranked in the top 10 best universities in Vietnam. In terms of training, its previous strengths were agriculture, aquaculture, and environment; now it is oriented towards high-tech and emerging industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, etc.
Speaking during the visit, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that as a former student of the school, he was very happy with the strong development of Can Tho University today. The National Assembly Chairman assessed that the school's philosophy of Community, Comprehensiveness and Excellence is very suitable, which has raised the quality of the school's training to be in the top 10 best universities in Vietnam.
Mr. Tran Thanh Man emphasized that developing the qualifications of the school's lecturers and teachers to reach doctoral and master's degrees is very valuable, "having good teachers will have good students". Training to raise students' level to reach international level will create opportunities for students to approach and be more confident in the learning process and after graduation.
Can Tho University pioneers in building business models in universities
At Nam Can Tho University, Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Chairman of the school board - said that although it was only established 12 years ago, the school has made efforts to develop multi-disciplinary and multi-field training.
Nam Can Tho University is a pioneer in building and developing the business model in universities. The school has established affiliated businesses such as: Hospital, medicinal research institute, mechanical workshop, car showroom... This is also the place where students practice and work after graduation.

Mr. Dung said that in the future, the school strives to become a training facility for quality human resources, meeting the labor market and social needs. Focusing on international cooperation in the fields of health science training, socio-economics, science and technology... to become a leading private school in the Southern region, on par with advanced universities in the country and Southeast Asia.
Speaking at Nam Can Tho University, the National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the investment in completing modern, spacious and synchronous facilities to serve teaching, learning, practice and scientific research for staff, lecturers, students and trainees at Nam Can Tho University.

In particular, the school has just inaugurated and put into use the DNC Health Science Institute with an investment scale of 750 billion VND, spacious and modern facilities, serving the training and teaching of domestic and international students.
"With modern facilities, I hope that the school's leaders, together with Can Tho University, will become a multidisciplinary and multi-field training school, becoming a spearhead in human resource training for the region and the whole country.
Note, school leaders need to closely follow the policies of the State and the National Assembly on education and training.
