On the afternoon of April 16, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali, who is on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the fourth Summit of the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G).





National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man was delighted to welcome Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the Ethiopian high-ranking delegation on an official visit to Vietnam. Emphasizing that this was the first visit by an Ethiopian head of government since the two countries established diplomatic relations, the National Assembly Chairman said that the Prime Minister's visit was an important milestone, not only affirming the two countries' commitment to further deepening bilateral relations, but also opening up new opportunities to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, education and sustainable development, while practically aiming to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (February 23, 1976 - February 23, 2026).

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the outstanding socio-economic achievements that Ethiopia has achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, making Ethiopia the largest economy in East Africa and the fifth largest in Africa, with an increasingly enhanced role and prestige, especially in promoting peace and cooperation in Africa.

The National Assembly Chairman congratulated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali on his successful meetings and talks with General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; and welcomed the signing of a number of important cooperation documents between the two countries in politics, diplomacy, trade, economy, and education. The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly supports and will supervise and urge government agencies to actively implement cooperation agreements between the two countries.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister thanked National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Vietnamese leaders for the warm welcome given to the Ethiopian high-ranking delegation. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali expressed his admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and was impressed by Vietnam's political stability, socio-economic development achievements, and its role and position in the international arena.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is a trusted friend of the Ethiopian people and the Ethiopian Government is determined to consolidate, develop and open a new chapter in the Vietnam-Ethiopia cooperation relationship, including cooperation between parliamentary agencies, commensurate with the good political relations and position of the two countries.

On this occasion, the Ethiopian Prime Minister conveyed to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man the invitation of the Ethiopian parliament leader to make an early official visit to Ethiopia.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam and Ethiopia have a good relationship of friendship and cooperation, built on the foundation of solidarity, sharing and mutual respect. The Vietnamese National Assembly always supports and wishes to actively contribute to consolidating and developing this relationship.

Appreciating Ethiopia's strengths, especially its young and dynamic population, achievements in developing smart agriculture, responding to climate change and developing renewable energy, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that the two sides increase exchanges, learn from each other and cooperate more closely to work towards sustainable development goals, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability and prosperity in each region and in the world.
The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly is committed to creating favorable legal conditions and promoting policies to support bilateral cooperation, especially in areas where the two countries have strengths and potential such as agriculture, green technology and education. The NA is ready to coordinate with the Ethiopian Parliament to strengthen parliamentary relations, share legislative and supervisory experiences, and cooperate at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to jointly promote initiatives for peace and development.


On this occasion, through Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent his regards and invitation to the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Ethiopia to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
