On the morning of September 14, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, who is visiting and working in Vietnam from September 13-14.
Warmly welcoming President-elect Prabowo Subianto to visit Vietnam, the National Assembly Chairman stated: The visit demonstrates affection for the country and people of Vietnam, especially in the context that the two countries have just celebrated the 10th anniversary of establishing the Strategic Partnership, towards the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1955 - 2025).
The Speaker of the National Assembly congratulated Mr. Prabowo Subianto on his election as President with high confidence in the recent 2024-2029 election (February 2024); and congratulated the 79th National Day of Indonesia (August 17, 1945 - August 17, 2024). Through President-elect Prabowo Subianto, the Speaker of the National Assembly sent his regards and best wishes to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate of Indonesia.

The National Assembly Chairman congratulated Indonesia on its great achievements in economic development, ensuring social security, and actively promoting its leading role in ASEAN and regional and international organizations. In particular, Indonesia has successfully assumed the G20 Chair in 2022, the ASEAN Chair and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2023 with many initiatives on sustainable development, climate change response, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, and development cooperation, etc.
The National Assembly Chairman believes that, on the current solid foundation, President-elect Prabowo Subianto and the new Government will continue to lead the country and people of Indonesia to achieve even greater achievements, develop more and more prosperously, have an increasingly high international position, and realize the goal of becoming a developed country on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the nation in 2045.
President-elect Prabowo Subianto thanked National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for taking the time to meet him and expressed his condolences to Vietnam over the huge loss of life and property caused by Typhoon Yagi.

Emphasizing that Vietnam and Indonesia have similar histories, President-elect Prabowo Subianto believes that, on the existing foundation, the cooperative relationship between the two countries will increasingly develop in all fields, to achieve the best benefits for the people of each country.
President-elect Prabowo Subianto pledged to strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia; thanked Vietnam for actively supporting Indonesia during its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023; and expressed his belief that when Vietnam cooperates with Indonesia, it will have a more effective voice for peace in the region and the world.
The National Assembly Chairman thanked President-elect Prabowo Subianto for his condolences and deep sympathy for the great damage and loss caused by Typhoon Yagi.
The President expressed his delight at witnessing the increasingly strong development of the traditional friendship and strategic partnership founded by two outstanding leaders, President Sukarno and President Ho Chi Minh. Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further deepen the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership, towards upgrading the relationship between the two countries to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the results of the in-depth and substantive exchanges between General Secretary and President To Lam and President-elect Prabowo Subianto, which set out major orientations for the relationship between the two countries.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and President-elect Prabowo Subianto agreed that it is necessary to strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense and security, as well as in cooperation in preventing, combating and handling transnational crimes to protect citizens and the territorial integrity of the two countries; and coordinate to prevent and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of peace, stability, safety, security and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea; maintained solidarity, common stance and ASEAN's achievements on the East Sea issue; promoted negotiations on a substantive, effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Appreciating the cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries in recent times, especially after the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the House of Representatives of Indonesia (August 2023), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the two sides regularly exchange delegations, share experiences in legislative work, create a legal corridor to promote cooperation in current global fields, especially green economy, circular economy, digital economy, energy transition, semiconductor industry, development of electric vehicle ecosystem and electric vehicle batteries, etc.
The National Assembly Chairman hopes that President-elect Prabowo Subianto will support the two countries' legislatures to strengthen cooperation in the direction of increasing exchanges of high-level delegations of the two countries' leaders; sharing experiences between the National Assembly's specialized committees, friendship groups of parliamentarians, female parliamentarians and young parliamentarians, especially in building laws and institutions, on global issues such as: Digital transformation, green growth, energy transition, response to climate change, etc.
The two sides will coordinate to effectively monitor cooperation agreements between the two countries; facilitate comprehensive bilateral cooperation, including economic, local, business connections, and people-to-people exchanges; and closely cooperate at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF).
