On the morning of July 2, in Can Tho City, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited and presented gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and outstanding people with revolutionary contributions on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2024).

Speaking at the ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the work of repaying gratitude and caring for people with meritorious services is one of the important tasks that the Party and State pay attention to and set as a central task.
According to him, Can Tho is the center of the Mekong Delta, the number of cadres, families of policy beneficiaries, and those with special merit is much higher than other localities. Therefore, the care for these people needs to be given regular attention.
The National Assembly Chairman requested Can Tho to quickly implement the National Assembly's Resolution on adjusting pensions, social insurance benefits, preferential benefits for people with meritorious services and social benefits from July 1.
Continue to launch the movement "All people take care of families of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution", mobilizing the strength of the entire political system to have more resources outside the state budget to take care of people with meritorious services.

The National Assembly Chairman also noted that localities should promptly commend and reward advanced models, collectives and individuals with many achievements and contributions to the movements "Repaying gratitude", "All people take care of families of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution"...
In addition, promptly commend and reward exemplary war invalids, sick soldiers, martyrs' families, and meritorious people who have promoted self-reliance, self-improvement, actively worked, produced, and did business effectively, especially families with difficult circumstances but have overcome difficulties and risen up.
Reporting to the National Assembly Chairman and the working delegation, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong said that in the first 6 months of the year, Can Tho City had a 5.75% GRDP growth, industrial value increased by about 6.08%, retail services and revenue increased by 11.26%, tourism increased by 11%. Budget revenue from tourism in the area was about 6,200 billion VND. Regarding the disbursement of central and local budget investment capital, it reached about 32.14%.
Can Tho City has 38,400 policy families, of which nearly 5,000 meritorious people are receiving regular subsidies with a total budget of more than 11 billion VND/month. There are currently 20 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 14 heroes of the People's Armed Forces, and heroes of labor during the resistance war. Every year, the entire city mobilizes about 9.4 billion VND to take care of the above subjects.

On the same morning, the delegation visited the family of war invalid Phan Nguyen - a representative of those who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy during the struggle for national liberation; and visited the family of Vietnamese Heroic Mother Tran Thi Hai (91 years old) in Phu Thu ward, Cai Rang district.
