National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi affirmed that the participation of young people will contribute to accelerating and finding new directions for realizing sustainable development goals.
On the afternoon of September 16, the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi held its closing session after 2 days of official program.
First Statement of the Global Young Parliamentarians' Conference

In his closing speech, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the conference adopted the Statement "The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation". This is the first statement of the global conference of young parliamentarians in its 9th edition.
"That demonstrates the determination, high consensus and strong commitment of young IPU parliamentarians in promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals on a global scale," the National Assembly Chairman emphasized.
The National Assembly Chairman also emphasized that through discussion sessions with hundreds of valuable opinions and proposals, the conference achieved common awareness and promoted international cooperation, multilateralism, basic principles of the United Nations and international law in accelerating the implementation of sustainable development goals.
The conference also emphasized the particularly important role of parliament in implementing sustainable development goals, especially in perfecting the legal framework to facilitate the implementation of sustainable development goals in the context of current difficulties in implementing the goals.
"The conference also emphasized the "pioneering role" of young parliamentarians in bringing the voice of young people to the parliament as well as applying innovation and creativity to the implementation of sustainable development goals; affirming that the participation of young people will contribute to accelerating and finding new directions for the realization of sustainable development goals," said the National Assembly Chairman.

According to the National Assembly Chairman, to make an actionable commitment and ensure continued implementation in the future, the conference also proposed promoting a global network of young parliamentarians on digital transformation and innovation; integrating innovation and digital transformation into the agenda or discussions of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the future.
Affirming the importance of young parliamentarians and young people
The National Assembly Chairman also said that the success of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians shows that the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum is a very necessary and useful forum for young parliamentarians; at the same time, it continues to affirm the importance of young parliamentarians in particular and young people in general as future owners of each country, nation and the whole world in participating in implementing the goals and tasks of the IPU and the United Nations.
From there, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that the IPU Secretariat and IPU member parliaments disseminate the results of this conference to the upcoming United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals (September 18-19) in New York (USA).
Delegates observed a minute of silence for the victims of natural disasters and catastrophes in Vietnam and other countries around the world before the closing session began.

The National Assembly Chairman also requested the IPU and called on member parliaments to actively implement the conference's declaration; at the same time, establish appropriate mechanisms for cooperation and mutual support, especially between developed and developing countries in digital transformation and innovation.
According to the National Assembly Chairman, in the era of digital transformation, in the conditions of the explosion of science and technology, the 4.0 industrial revolution as it is today, no country, no matter how large, can solve global problems on its own. And conversely, countries, no matter how small and poor, still have opportunities to develop.
"In the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution, the future is not simply an extension of the past. Developing countries or larger, richer, developed countries may all have to return to the starting point. That is our opportunity and also the premise of cooperation," the National Assembly Chairman emphasized.
Emphasizing Vietnam's consistent policy of promoting a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, based on the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, the National Assembly Chairman said that Vietnam attaches great importance to and actively and responsibly participates in multilateral institutions of which Vietnam is a member.
"In that spirit, the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to actively cooperate with the IPU and member parliaments to join hands to realize the goals and resolutions of the IPU in general and of the conference of young parliamentarians in particular, to continuously promote noble missions and elevate parliamentary diplomacy," the National Assembly Chairman emphasized.
