At the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue, Chairman of the National Assembly of Bulgaria Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov will pay an official visit to Vietnam from January 5-9.

President Ho Chi Minh's official friendly visit to Bulgaria in August 1957 laid the foundation and marked an important milestone in the history of relations between the two countries. Over the years, relations between the two countries have developed positively, especially in the political and diplomatic fields.

The two sides have exchanged many high-level delegations. The two sides closely coordinate at multilateral forums. Bulgaria supports Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), its candidacy for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (terms 2008-2009 and 2020-2021); Vietnam's candidacy for ECOSOC for the term 2026-2018; candidacy for the United Nations Human Rights Council (terms 2014-2016 and 2023-2025); The Bulgarian National Assembly ratified the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) in September 2023.

In 2012, the two National Assemblies signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation. The two sides maintain contact, coordination and mutual support at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the IPU and ASEP.

The Vietnamese community in Bulgaria currently has over 1,000 people, concentrated mainly in the capital Sofia.

The two countries' National Assemblies have exchanged many high-ranking delegations, notably the visit of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong (2008). The most recent was the visit to Bulgaria by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue from September 24-26, 2023.
