PSG President: 'The team has never been as united as it is now'

France President Nasser Al Khelaifi says optimism has returned to PSG, as the club have just parted ways with stars like Lionel Messi and Neymar.

The Qatari leader said PSG's 4-1 win at Lyon on September 3 showed that the team's optimism had returned, unlike at the end of last season. "On and off the pitch, PSG have never been as united as they are now," GFFN quoted Al Khelaifi as saying. "The team is starting a new cycle this season, focusing on performance on the pitch rather than results. Because if the team plays well, the results will come."

PSG changed half of the starting lineup compared to last season, when they said goodbye to Sergio Ramos, Messi, Neymar and Renato Sanches, and isolated midfielder Marco Verratti. They brought in many expected new players such as central defenders Milan Skriniar, Lucas Hernandez, midfielders Manuel Ugarte, Lee Kang-in, Marco Asensio and strikers Randal Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramos and Ousmane Dembele.

At the end of last season, there were groups of Paris fans who whistled and booed their team, especially players like Messi and Neymar. After moving to Al Hilal, the Brazilian star also said that he and Messi were living in hell at PSG.

Al Khelaifi also believes that French star Kylian Mbappe will continue to stay at the club, despite the fact that he has said he wants to join Real Madrid. "Mbappe is a great player, but also a lovely guy," he said. "We have a good and optimistic relationship."

The 50-year-old president believes Mbappe will renew his contract with PSG, although many sources say he has already made a secret agreement to join Real for free in the summer of 2024. The 25-year-old star is considered the reason for Neymar's departure, as the two players have not had a good relationship recently. And after saying goodbye to the two South American stars, Mbappe has become the most important player on the team, although he was not elected captain by his teammates.
