President Vo Van Thuong receives Lao General Secretary and President Thoongloun Sisoulith

On the morning of October 19, on the occasion of attending the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation,President Vo Van Thuong had a meeting with Lao General Secretary and President Thoongloun Sisoulith.

At the meeting, General Secretary and President of Laos Thoongloun Sisoulith expressed his pleasure at meeting President Vo Van Thuong again, conveyed his warm regards to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and recalled the good results of his visit to Vietnam in September 2023, on the occasion of the high-level meeting between the three countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to its relationship with Laos, considering Laos a top priority in its foreign policy. The Vietnam-Laos relationship is a priceless asset, a rare exemplary, loyal, and pure relationship in international relations.

The two leaders emphasized that in recent times, ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries have actively coordinated, implemented high-level agreements, made efforts to remove difficulties and obstacles; many key cooperation projects have made positive progress.

In the context of the complex and fluctuating world situation with many challenges intertwined with opportunities, the two sides agreed to continue to further promote the close political relationship between the two countries, together contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for development; continue to focus on effectively implementing high-level agreements, treaties, agreements and cooperation plans between the two parties and two countries;

The two sides agreed to closely coordinate, prepare well for high-level activities and effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms; strengthen defense and security cooperation, considering this one of the important pillars of the bilateral relationship; effectively maintain cultural, sports and tourism exchange mechanisms; effectively implement the Project to improve the quality and effectiveness of Vietnam - Laos cooperation in the field of education and human resources development for the 2021-2030 period;

In addition, the two sides agreed to strive to completely resolve difficulties in a number of economic, trade and investment cooperation projects; strengthen scientific cooperation, innovation, digital economic cooperation, e-commerce, etc.; promote cooperation in digital transformation between state management agencies as well as between enterprises.

The two sides also affirmed the importance of enhancing cooperation and connectivity between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, especially in terms of economy, trade, infrastructure, tourism and cultural exchange; agreed to coordinate to contribute to ensuring Laos' successful assumption of the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024, thereby promoting ASEAN's central role and bringing practical benefits to ASEAN people.

General Secretary and President Thoongloun Sisoulith said that Laos attaches special importance to its relations with Vietnam and always strives to foster and develop the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in a sustainable and increasingly profound manner; affirming that it will always actively contribute to promoting relations between the two Parties and two countries.
